xDrive, or any other 4x4 system, for that matter, does not work too well when the wheels are not touching the road. :tsk:

offroading and flood water are two different things...

xDrive works so well, I know that I probably push it a little more than I should in the rain. It still just drives so nice! Maybe I will keep this over-confidence lesson in mind next time. :yikes:

Uh X3 is a great vehicle, but there's no "miracle" vehicle out there for those who lack common sense.

1) If its dark outside and you cant see, why the hell would you risk crossing high water. You dont know if its a flooded "puddle" or a raging river, the latter of which you should never be driving through

2) If its a raging river, you shouldnt cross it anytime in any manner.

That said, last week when it rained a whole lot in the DC area, many creeks did overflow their banks. So on the way back home from work, I turned onto a side street (I take this route often) to see a "road closed" sign. Uh yea so what. I drove down and saw that indeed the creek was overflowing, but it wasnt running water, just a deep puddle. So I went ahead and forded thru at walking speed, no problem. But I did approximate how deep the water was (I could still see pavement underneath), no more than a foot in depth.
