Will lowering my X3 void the Warranty?
 

I want to have some nice springs put in. Eibach has a nice set for the X3. Will it void the warranty? Thanks in advance.

It depends. It will not void the entire warranty but you can bet that if you take your X3 in for any suspension service they will not cover it.

818Guy is correct: if you ever have any suspension problems, BMW may balk at paying for any repairs. It will probably not void the rest of your warranty, though. Having said all that, it all depends greatly on your dealership also. Some are stricter than others when it comes to interpreting the warranty.

First thing to do is find out if any BMW approved makers do a lowering kit, such as Alpina or AC Schnitzer.

I put AC Schnitzer lowering suspension on my 2006 X5 and this was fitted by BMW and remains under full BMW warranty. It was a bit more but got rid of the warranty issue. Also try to find an authorised ACS dealer not just your BMW dealer to give you prices I saved a lot going to an authorised dealer rather than BMW although they fitted it. Check and see if your BMW dealer has a or can get a copy of the official BMW/ACS catologue. Also try and chip him on the price he quotes you should get at least 10%

By law it is ILLEGAL for a dealership to refuse service unless they can PROVE that the aftermarket component caused a failure. I.E. They cannot refuse to fix your problems unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused it. Now, if you have your springs installed incorrectly and want them to fix the clunking, they won't do that. They also probably will not cover your shocks, because using aftermarket springs without a new set of shocks will be a little bit more stressful on your shocks.
