Does the 06 X3 come with self leveling

suspension? Today I was packing up some gear for a BBQ we are throwing for 40 people down at the park. When I got in the X3 and turned the key on, I heard what sounded like a pump and it felt like the rear end was being lifted. Is it me or is it self leveling? I looked under the car but could identify anything looking like self leveling suspension pieces.

Not that I know of, or have ever heard of...

Perhaps Magna Steyr messed up and you got away with a prototype X3? :)

there is something that's used for hills and such, it's a button underneath the climate control, but i dont know what's it called. (dont know if this is what you mean)

hmm, your talking about HDC or Hill Descent Control. I doubt he could have accidentally engaged it. Plus the noise is only made when the car is actually moving and the DSC pulsing...

  that would be your brakes pulsing. DSC is nothing but a traction, braking system.

There was a similar thread to this not long ago where a guy thought he had self-leveling suspension. The conclusion was that there's a pump in the fuel tank to purge vapors after the vehicle has been shutdown. This is most likely what you heard.

sorry sorry... this is what happens when you multitask and write posts... I meant ABS pulsing...

ABS pulsing would only occure whed you are moving. I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but as I said I was not moving. I'm going with the purge pump for gas vapor as the right answer. It was just a coincidence that I had just loaded the rear cargo area and heard that pump.
Gremlins? Haven't had any of those yet. Just that pump noise. Thanks for all the replies. I really like how well the X3 handles a couple of hundred pounds in the back.
Thanks guys
