Pics of Facelifted X3

X3 with the new face as of September 2005 as 2006 model. Is there a major difference? :dunno:

The only thing I'm detecting is a slightly updated front bumper cover :dunno:

They elevated the bumper lining to give it a more rugged look...I think BMW is looking to completely separate the ideals of the X3 from the X5...the X5 is more of a "people mover" where the X3 is meant to be more a traditional SUV...

 Hmmmmmm....I like the 2004/05 look better. One of the main complaints I hear about the X3 is the contrasty black plastic bumpers. Interesting that they would choose to make it more plasticky in front. Or maybe they have an excess of aero kits and need to move them!

Looks like camoflage cladding to me... Maybe they're painting the bumpers? Maybe I'm dead wrong lol.

It kind of looks like change for changes sake. There's very little to distinguish it from the previous look.

I do find it curious how BMW gets on these wierd decisions to paint or not paint bumpers. As I recall, the E36 initially came with unpainted bumpers and that was supposedly to be more environmentally friendly/easier to recycle the plastic. (I had a Jet Black one so the unpainted bumpers blended okay.) They gave in and started painted, at least partially, the later E36's. I am told that is the reason for the X3 having unpainted bumpers too. It's strange because all other BMW's have painted bumpers? :dunno:

facelift already?

kirkX5m 05-10-2005 03:41 PM

Q: the 05 has the old 225hp 3.0 engine
does the 06 have the new 255hp 3.0 engine?

ses4me 05-10-2005 03:50 PM

You would think that they'd reduce the amount of ugly plastic bumper, but instead they increased it by bringing it all the way up to the headlights. I came very close to buying a new X3 3.0 (before before I decided on my CPO X5), but the plastic was too much for me to take.

mwbbmw 05-11-2005 12:14 PM

It was asked if the '06 would have the new engine in it, and according to my BMW rep. he says he has seen the information on the '06 and there is no indication of the engine change - not yet anyways. I would venture a guess that in '07 they would have to just to remain consistant.

As for the new front end, I am hoping that it is not going to remain that way and it's just some plastic cladding - otherwise, ewwwwwww. . .

another thing missing on those pics is the fog lights, BMW has to make a certain amount of their parts environmentaly "safe" in order to get some kind of tax credit. they made the X5 bumpers half painted and were not able to get any kind of credit becasue they were not recycleable, and thats why I think they decided to make the X3 bumpers totally unpainted, however, from what I understand, 2006 or 2007 will have an option to paint bumpers from the factory

bimmerfan 05-11-2005 07:55 PM

Well they still haven't gotten a clue and painted the bumpers...
That thing would sell like hotcakes if the bumpers were painted.
I rarely ever see them in So Ca which leads me to believe they don't
sell at all as you see everything here...

The other day I was at a light and there were 3 X5s in front of me and 3 X5s behind me...

Yes...Orange County is the BMW capital...so seeing 5 or 6 X5s at once is not an uncommon sight.

The tax credit theory for unpainted bumper doesn't really fly on a $40K+ car...though, it might on a lower priced car.

x3fan 06-21-2005 04:23 AM

The side running boards look slightly more integrated, and maybe narrower?

Do we know if the interior will be changed at all, and is there any confirmation as yet if this update is in general production from September?

lilskel 06-24-2005 12:02 AM

I think it's going to be painted...you can tell from that pic that the bumper cover is now integrated into the lines of the body and not stuck on top of the painted part like on a 2005, and its the same part as the grill surrounds...there is no way that they would deliver the 2006 x3 with black trim around the grille...it's all going to painted, theres no other way it can be if thats the 2006 bumper

Juanted 06-27-2005 09:58 PM

hmmmm.... don't know how I feel about that look. To be honest, I HATED the e90 UNTIL I saw it in person at the dealer (though I still hate that double-cowl in the dash). So, I would hope it's the same for the X3.

I read somewhere (AutoWeek, maybe?) that indeed BMW wanted to face-lift the interior as well with some "nicer" materials. Apparently, the biggest complaint among X3 owners has been the "plasticky" interior. We own one, and, though not as luxurious as the X5, it is still a very nice interior.

You know when you look at pictures of '07 cars there all kinda coverd up with like black coverings... I think thats what were looking at on those pictures of the X3. At least thats what i hope were looking at, for BMW's sake.

Also, I sat in the X3 and i was confussed about all the "plasticky" buttons they were talking about, i thought it was nice... But then i sat in the 3 Series... going back to the X3, it deffinently seemed like it needed a lil something more.

Well, unfortunately, I don't think that is cladding meant to disquise the vehicle. A

And, yes, the interior of the X3 is not bad at all -- especially if you have the premium package. The basic, bare minimum interior, though can be a little "plain."
