Dream BMW??

Hello all...Sorry if this post is a little "off the reservation" but I felt like posting it.

I think it's clear we all love the x3 on this board...I know i do. Every time I drive her i discover something new to like. But, at the same time, I bought an X3 for some practical reasons (price point, utility, size, cargo space, east coast winters).

If I had, say, an extra 90 grand or so lying around, i'd LOVE to get my hands on a new 2007 M5....talk about sharp!! What a nice looking vehicle...fast and with four doors (i know, why a sedan for a dream car? not sure, but I just love the lines).

I've also always wanted to fully restore/recondition a 2002 or a Bavaria...Both have those classic boxy body styles and both are pinnacles of early BMW design.

This list could go on and on, but I don't want to seem too greedy ;)

What's in your Dream Bimmer Garage?

If I had to settle on one BMW, it would most likely be a round tail lamp 2002 because it's the perfect DIY vehicle. When done right, it can maintain it's own with contemporary vehicles. I've had 3 2002 restoration projects - 1 completed and sold, 1 abandoned because of rust, and the third sold before finished because of lack of time. But I've always wanted one last 2002 - to keep as a "tinker toy", which is my term for a car that you mod forever.

I was thinking an S14 E30 M3 engine would perfect until I saw Paul Cain's 3002ttii in the current issue of Roundel. The 3002 indicates the M54 engine from an E46 330i and the ttii indicates a twin turbo installation good for 485HP. :wow: He did a lot of work to set the car up to handle this amount of horsepower. This car lacks nothing and is an engineering marvel.

My other 2 choices would be an E30 M3 or a E36 Z3 M Coupe. Both of these cars are bullet proof and would make good starting points for mod projects.

A couple of other notes regarding Paul Cain - he also built what is probably the nicest 3.0CSi's I've ever seen. I've seen this car on a number of occasions, and the first impression is that the vehicle is absolutely flawless - perfect paint, perfect chrome, perfect leather - until you find out that 3.8CSi logos represent the S38 M5 engine stuck in the engine bay.

Some people dream the dream, this guy lives it.

I've attached some pictures of his 3.8CSI that I took at last year's Oktoberfest.

I don't know that I could choose just one - in fact, I'm pretty sure it isn't possible. Since I've started my obsession (because there is no other word for it) I've owned at least two and have been up to three at a time. My dream dream BMW would have to be a 507. I'd also want a 3.0cs, a 328 (the original) an M6 (original & new - you can't be a carbon fiber roof), an M5 (E39 & E60), E30 M3, 2002tii (like one I had but with a few less issues), M-Coupe & M-Roadster (current and past incarnations) and did I mention a Z8? Yeah, one of those too and while I know it may be a bit off, I also want a K1200R Naked bike (and not just because I get to say "naked" all the time) . . . 0-60 in 2.6 seconds? :zoom: Yeah buddy! See, I can't pick just one! :tsk: If I had to only have one, I would go with the current M5. I could take the family with me and still haul some serious butt!

I would love to own a 3.0csl, an M1 and a Z1. I have been looking for a nice 02 recently but I just think it would be nice to own something as rare as an M1 or Z1.

My dream BMW: 2004 e46 M3. Leguna Seca blue, black interior, 6MT, xenons, H/k audio, moonroof, 19" double spoke wheels.

My dream "practical" BMW (doesn't require as high maintenance): e46 330i ZHP, 6MT, imola red, black alcantara/lthr, xenons, silver cube, fold-down rear seats.

I think my dream BMW out of the current models would be the current M6.. It's just sooo nice. If I had to pick a practical BMW.. Probably an '06 X5 4.4i. It's got the handling of a BMW, all-weather capability, and plenty of room. However.. If I had to pick the perfect BMW for me right now.. It would be the E90 330xd.. You don't give up anything, really, except a hi-revving engine.. All the excitement of a 330, good in the snow, and highway MPG in the mid 40s.

Couple of days ago I visited the ocean racer BMW Oracle in Rockefeller Center, in the middle of Mahnhattan... She is a world champion, by the way...

Then I get closer...

Then, I run into that beauty...

It was my first encounter to an M6... Now she's my dream car...
