Of course we do. If you drive the X3 with them, you are sure to get rock chips. We bought our X3 in mid May 06 and have close ro 9k miles on it. In a month or so I'll be replacing my first windscreen. The last trip from AZ to CA (last Saturday) produced 5 new chips in the glass and more then I'd like to count on the front facia,

I think we all do... nature of the beast, I guess. Not much you can do about that.

Other than putting on clear bra :D In all seriousness, every single car that I've own that have colored plastic bumper have chips on them...heck...every single car that I've ever owned have chips plastered all over the front end!

Which is why I prefer the unpainted plastic bumpers. It's much more functional for a small truck to have plastic bumpers than trying to pretty it up and make it look like a car.

I agree and while I like the sporty look of the paint matched bumpers, I prefer the functionality and ease of the plastic bumpers - it seemed like the perfect compromise. I don't really care for the mix-match bumpers on the '07 as it doesn't seem to alleviate the chip problem and ruins some of the class of the all painted bumpers . . . progress???:dunno:.

:withstupi , both of them. I love my black, unpainted bumpers. The painted ones do look nice, for a while.
But what can you do about the rock chips? Get one of those black bras and cover up all that nice paint? Naw... that'd just cover up even more of that pretty paint.
My best advice would be to not tailgate and stay away from 18-wheelers, dirty pickup trucks and jeeps, people hauling junk in trailers, other cars, construction zones, never drive on a dirt or gravel road behind another car, and don't go over 30 mph anywhere.

OK, I wasn't really serious on that last part about the advice. Well, some of it maybe. But you can't just park the thing.

I was driving from Prescott AZ to Morgan Hill Ca last Saturday. Hi-Way 40 is a littered mess from all the construction. It was completely unavoidable not to have damage to the X3. When I washed it on sunday, I found 5 more windsceen chips and countless front end damage. I guess the only way to deal with it is to deal with it. I'll do a new windshield in a few months and have the front facia painted next year.

Bumper chips are a non-issue with my black bumpers  I don't even know if I have any paint chips since we have that (ugly) nose mask on half the time.

I had a 3M clear bra installed on the front of mine. Covers the complete front end, 12" on the hood, and the mirrors. One of the best things I have done. Driving on the Autobahn just tears the shit out of the front end.
