Some Interesting Comparisons Between 2 X3's

Through dealer error and excellent customer service I ended-up with 2 virtually identical X3's. Both are 05's (one a March 05 production the other April 05 production) with sport, premium, nav, xenons, cold weather, premium sound, servotronic and privacy glass. Both are white with black interior. One is a stick the other is automatic.

I am fascinated by some of the differences between the 2 cars:

1. The April car (the automatic) has voice control for the phone
2. The steering on the April car is just a bit firmer than the March (stick) car
3. The head liner on the automatic is a lighter shade of gray than the stick

Just the meaningless observations of a guy with too damned much time on his hands (auto-x season is over so no racing to discuss). Happy Holidays everybody!

Isn't that the truth!!!

You own both of these?

Odd as it seems, even to me, yes I do...

White: Pretty interesting obs., I think.

And, shows the variation via assembly...

Not analagous, but I've driven other guys'
Vettes, (same year for some, newer for others),
and they felt very similar.

I've driven other CR-Vs, (no cracks), and all the
others were much better than our POS CR-V in'
terms of handling, ride, noise, etc. We gotta
dog in our CR-V, but our Vette is Titz and our
X has run well for 5+ years, too.

Interesting, to me...

The Vette being from almost dead GM is lucky to have the same anything from car to car. No two alike, build what no one will buy. I think it's written in the GM designers hand book.

Well, thanks Rick...

Yes, GM is bleeding, though my GXM bonds are doing fine.

I suspect the Ol'General will be around for awhile longer.
No homer or big cheerleader for them but, if you haven't
driven a Vette lately, you will not believe what $50K gets
in terms of performance and engineering capability.

The only less expensive entree' to that kind of oommph
is a UJM liter or, liter+ sled.

And, having driving a few dozen late model Vettes, I remain
impressed with build quality, and "likeness" on those I've
driven and own. Commercial rant over.

Yes...it was an Chevy "Aveo". Rental from Budget Rent A Car.
Emphasis on budget, lol!

It got us around and back to the airport...was a hit
at the show.

Rick in Prescott 12-20-2006 10:21 PM

No disrespect on the Vette, didn't mean for that to sound that way. I like it well enough and your right, you get a lot of bang for the buck. I'm just not a fan of the big 2.5. The first thing I think of with any of them is the rental car fleet that they sell to. I think that GM is so stupid that they have to badge engineer a Daweoo in to a Aveo, just to make CAFE to sell oversized worthless SUV's. Now I'm off my soapbox too!.

White05X3 12-20-2006 11:43 PM

MD - Don't knock that Aveo...it made a fine platform for the group photographer (j/k). And here I thought you rented that fine GM product (well, sort of...) to support your GM investment.

All kidding aside I share some or Rick's sentiments about GM. I really wish Ford and GM would get their acts together. Most of the other manufacturers in the world have figured out how to build profitable, reliable and high quality vehicles in the US, so why cant (or wont) they?
