2005 X3 2.5 Liter Oil Change
 

I am please to join this forum as a 2005 X3 2.5 manual gear box owner. Being a bit of a gear head, an oil change was on the must do list. Very straight fwd process as seen in the X5 tech article (Thanks).

Anyway, how does one reset the oil service mileage counter?

And FWIW, the X3 had its first off road event yesterday. It did a great job taking the mnt bikes up to the top of the mnt for a down hill run. The factory hitch worked really well with the bike rack.

Why would you want to reset it though? Don't you want a free oil change when the 15k interval is up?

Free service at 15K miles? I am at 26K miles now. So is there another service at 30K even if I purchase the X3 at 20K?

Scheduled maintenace is provided for the first 4 years or 50k miles, whichever comes first. That means the Oil change at 15k, Inspection I at 30k, and Oil change at 45k is provided, along with the usual wiper blades, brake pads, etc...

BMWs have approx 15k service intervals. So yes, at 30k there will be an oil change plus Inspection I service, provided at no cost.

So if you change your own oil prior to the factory service interval, don't reset the service indicator or else the dealer may not provide the free change. Our dealer won't do the oil change until the service indicator comes on, regardless of the mileage (unless we pay for it, of course), so you may inadvertently screw yourself out of a free oil change if you reset the service indicator.
