First service: 15k miles or 1 year ?
I've had my 2006 X3 for one year now. Best vehicle I've owned.
I have approximately 11,000 miles on it. Is the first service only to happen at 15,000 miles or should I take it in now? I have not contacted the dealer with this question; I wanted some insite from the members first. Thanks. . |
Hi 818Guy,
You get the first "free" service when you hit the yellow light on your dash. That is an oil "service", microfilter and a wash. However, for lower mileage per annum cars, they offer an "annual oil change"...if you are down to one green or, have an extraordinary relationship with your SA, he might let you roll in for the regular "yellow light" service. Or, cop the annual deal; they are quite similar in nature. If you are "lights away" from yellow, grab the 1 yr deal and they go back on yellow for a another nice oil change. Make sure they fill it; short fills are becoming famous. GL,mD PS: How do you like your elec shift 1300? |
The dealer will not do the service to the car indicator says it needs it. If you do it early, it is at your expense. At least this is how my dealer handled it for the 45K maintenance. I had 41,000 on the car and he said they wouldn't touch it under warranty till the number was hit.

It's very odd going from changing oil every 3000 miles to biting your nails waiting for the lights to go out. My dealer will not do service until I'm out of bars. I've tried...

So, BMW has canned the annual/low mileage oil change routine?

Honestly, I don't know. I run out of bars before the one year mark |
No cannolis here, but way back in the stone age, circa Sept. '02,
I got an oil/filter change at the one year mark and I still had 2 greens to go, as the Stlr said it was for low mileage/annual service. I remember reading that too, but I don't have the energy or vigor to hunt for it this eve; maybe that service is discontinued to go along with their lifetime fills and no dipstick move. |
I think there was a notice sent to dealers awhile back
Oil changes/service are to be done at 1 year OR when the maintenace minder says <500 miles. Now that you have passed one year, get the oil change done. Our first dealer oil change on the X3 was done at 1 year with only 13k miles on the odo. And for you X5 people talkin about green bars.......there are none on the 3-series and the X3 for that matter. It's just a simple "xxxxx miles till Oil Service/Inspection". |
Along the same lines my 2005 maintaince book says an oil change should occur once a year. Me? Its every 7500 miles like clockwork but the bars are not re-set by the independent guy. The first Oil change was done on the one-year mark. There were still 2 bars left and they said they wouldn't do it but I opened the maintaince book and pointed out the one-year paragraph. Discussion over. Got the appointment and the service.:)
