Chains Required!
Hey all,
I was out recently playing in the snow, and actually came across an area that required chains, even if you had AWD with snows on....Well I didn't have chains (or snow tires for that matter), so I had to turn around. I have never had any problems with the X3 in the snow, even with the sport package. So, do I buy Spike Spiders for the Sport wheels for the 3-times-a-year-this-happens? or a set of 17's w/snows to run chains? Thanks, TikiGod |
where? I was JUST in my ski area AT 8 degrees before windchill and they didn't require chains

You can probably only run chains on the smaller wheels (not as wide) so you don't rip up the fender wells.

Well, basically I found out that there are 4 levels of regulations:
1: Carry Chains or Traction Tires 2:Chains (required for 2WD and/or certain traction tires) or Traction Tires (AWD) required 3: Chains required on all vehicles 4: Road closed to all traffic So, it seems like I would have to get non-sport wheels and dedicated snows even to use chains, because I can't keep the Sport Wheels and use chains. So, it looks like Winter Wheels for me! TikiGod |
