Sunroof sliding visor panel closure

Dear X3 friends,

We just bought a 2007 X3, and love it. One problem - the sunroof sliding visor panel does not close as described in the Owners Manual. It opens as it should (opens as long as the switch is held at the resistance point, and opens to full if the switch is pushed past the resistance point). But it should close in a similar manner. In my case, the switch must be pushed 14 times to get it to close from full open to closed. Each push of the switch move the visor about 2 inches. It does not seem to be binding such that the 'anti-pinch' function would activate. Also, the glass sunroof does open and close as it should.

Is this normal? Any suggestions? I hate to spend a couple hours at the dealer, and I would hope if it does require a fix, they won't need to take the headliner apart.

Thanks, Doug

Hi there 2fast! :xoutpost:
No, that's not normal. Sorry to say but I think you need to make that trip.

One thing you might try... Get the visor out far enough to grab it with your fingers. Push the switch and lightly pull the visor forward at the same time. If the motor continues to close the visor without stopping I'd say there's just enough drag in it to keep it from closing the way it should.

Then see the dealer and get it fixed.

Hi when I reset my roof you push the roof button in and hold till the roof goes through all the opening and closing procedures then its reset.

Maxey this happens after battery replacement also i think check with the others or your dealer

THANKS! The reset procedure fixed it!

You folks are geniuses! I went through the reset procedure you describe, and it solved the problem! Yes, I had disconnected the battery to do some electrical work, so that must have been when the problem began.

Here are some specifics on the reset procedure.

* Close the glass top and visor panel.
* Push up and HOLD the moonroof button.
* At first, the glass panels will go into the vent position, and the visor will split to the vent position.
* Keep holding the button up. After about 15 seconds, the unit will go through its entire cycle - the visor will go all the way back, the glass panel all the way back, then the glass will go full forward, and visor full forward.
* When everything is done moving, release the button.
* You're done!

Again, thanks! You saved a morning at the dealer.

Ps:

PS: Given this sunroof visor problem was caused by disconnecting the battery, are there others I should know about? I haven't noticed anything amiss.

Thanks.

When I disconnected the battery to install our Ipod adapter there was a CD in the player. After reconnecting the battery the CD would not eject. Dealer installed a new radio but couldn't get the CD out of the old one  .
