Colour Coding Bumpers.....Now with PICs :)

To All,

Just wondering if anyone else has colour coded thier 1st Gen X3's bumpers. It makes a BIG difference to the car, I picked mine up on Friday and looks like a whole different car. I'll get some pictures up soon.......
Next are some nice rims ;)

Enjoy
Rod.

That looks good!

Interesting to see how you treated your mud flaps. I've got them (all the way around), and was wondering how I would do it if I painted the bumpers.

Thanks for the pics!

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but how do they do that? Is it just painted because if so, how does it match so well with the rest of the car? I am guessing that matching the body would not be easy? Or are the bumpers completely replaced? Or perhaps I just don't understand the whole process in the first place. :)

roders 05-15-2007 08:55 PM

hi Jsy,

Most panel/paint workshops can do it.
They remove the bumpers, side skirts ect. Prep them so they can be painted, then they just paint them using the same paint as the original car :)
Dont know why BMW didnt just do it in the first place....

Regards
Rod.

Looking good!

Thanks for the info! It looks very cool indeed!

Honestly, I kind of do like the bumpers in the same colour as the car, but I don't like the painted plastic around the wheel. I prefer the black line around the wheels and on the aluminium doorstep. I've learnt that when I was looking at the aero kits, where I'd prefer the aero1 (i think) with painted bumpers and plastic on the wheels, than the aero2 with all painted. But this is just my opinion, from a '06 silver grey. I'm happy than you're happy :)

Can you post some more photos of the mud flaps? Or some photos from Rebound, with the flaps all around?

We've ordered the car with the flaps, but they didn't come when we got the car. Now it's almost a whole year after, and we haven't yet gone back to get the flaps, so I'm curious to see how they look on the car. please photos :)

Your wish is my command! ;)

From the back:

Side view of back flap:

Front flap:

Front flap from the side:

From the front:

As you can see, the back flaps really look like original equipment, but the front flaps look "added on" (at least to me).

Hope this helps!

Hrms....looks like I was gipped front mud flapps :P

rebound 05-16-2007 09:49 PM

Did you pay for them?

davipt 05-17-2007 04:11 AM

@Rebound: thanks. They look great. The front ones really look less professional than the back ones, thanks to the separation on the back wheels. (same set of wheels as ours, and looks like the same grey :)

I never had the option......but eh its a small thing.

Hi Maxey,

My car originally came from Vic but I shipped it to WA.
It cost me locally here $1250 for the whole job, that included around $90 for 80x stupid BMW stud thiingy while hold it all together.

Regards
Rod

Maxey 08-22-2007 02:32 AM

Rod very cheap did you get the job done in VIC or WA?
Maxey

roders 08-22-2007 03:21 AM

That was done in Perth. Price is about that from most panel shops here in Perth. Heard guys in the US getting it done for $300USD......
