Auto gear box issues and other questions
Hi all.I would like to ask for your help.I did a search
but the results are too many (X5 and X3 forums) to find what i am looking for.The past few weeks i have been experiencing this:the auto gear box seems to upshift and downshift quite steeply, stiffly and as a result you feel(sense) a shake in the cabin.Any clue why it does that?I have read here about some problems with the auto box but i didnt understand what were those.I asked at the workshop the other day (i went to change my oil at 2000 kms,as i was instructed after replacing my engine for better break in) but he was too busy to connect the car and i got bored waiting.Another question,i cant lift the windscreen wipers for they hit the hood.I read something in the manual but still nothing.Any help would be truly appreciated. |
My transmission used to do what yours does but only on the downshift; it doesn't do it anymore. Not sure why it was doing it or why it stopped, but I'm glad it did. Some would say it could be a software issue. As for your wipers, just turn your ignition to position two, activate your wipers and then turn off your ignition when the wipers are at its highest point on your windshield. You should be able to easily lift your wipers then. Hope this helps.

This is my second X3 and both had difficulty (more than my other BMWs) at adapting to my driving style. Once they did, that "hard shift" or even "unusual shift" seemed to all but go away. One suggestion is to have BMW (dealership) reset the transmission and now that your engine is broken in, the tranny can learn to adapt to your real driving style - not the break in driving style. Either that or just keep on it and eventually your tranny should adapt to you and your driving style.
As for the wipers, that is becoming more common. My Z3 was the same and what you have to do is turn the key on, turn the wipers on and just as they hit mid-position on the windshiled turn off the key. You can then swap out or clean the wipers. Once completed, turn the key back on and they should go back to normal position by themselves. |
Thank you both! The paint at the wipers point has peeled off, probably at the auto washer because the guy didnt know how to lift the wipers. This issue doesnt happen all the time.It started as a downshift problem but now also is made in the upshift.
