Disconnect Passenger air bag

Hi at all, first of all sorry for my poor english and then for older posts about the same thread, eventually...

Can I exclude front right passenger air bag to install my new baby holder ;) ?

Thank you very much.

In my '04 X3, when no one is sitting in the passenger seat, the airbag is deactivated. (as shown by the warning light in the overhead console). It may be this way even with a baby seat.

If you wish to disconnect the passenger dashboard airbag, the connector is on top of the fuse panel, which is located at the top of the glove box. To get to the airbag in the A pillar, the connector will require popping off the A-pillar cover. And then there is the door airbag - not sure where that connector is located. One part of the X3 I haven't had to take apart...yet.

Good luck.

where is the module/control unit for the passenger airbag

I'm not sure. My guess would be an accelerometer or other sensor(s) throughout the car connected to the main computer to control the deployment of the airbag. When I removed the passenger front airbag it was a self contained unit the looked like it consisted of the bag and the propellent.

The airbag is turned on and off by a weight sensor in the passenger seat. I suspect that a car seat and child would be heavy enough to activate it since my wife's purse does so occasionally (not that that says much for the weight of her purse...)

Your probably right! And as much stuff as some women keep in a purse I'm suprised some of them don't have straps made of Kevlar! :bustingup No offense ladies - I've got more than my share of junk I've carreid around too! ;)
