Passenger side mirror not returning after tilt in reverse
Hi Everyone,
Took delivery of an x3 3.0i couple weeks ago for my wife. I had to trade in my Mitsu Evo for it but we needed more room for my son. Anyway, I'm not sure if the passenger side external mirror is suppose to retract back to the set position after reversing the car and then going into D. I would think that it would return back so as that you can use it. Can anyone help me out. I checked the manual, but it did not mention whether is should turn back, or how to make the adjustment. Thanks a lot. |
Move the mirror adjustment switch to the opposite position (from passenger to driver or vice versa) and try it again. In one position it doesn't tilt down and in the other it does (by design).

I think his mirror IS tilting down, Jeff. I't just not returning to the normal "upright" position after he puts it in Drive. Is that it MidnightRun? If it is, then, that's not normal.
On the other hand, if the mirror is not tilting down at all, then do as Jeff (UCrewX5) explained. Juan |

Mine too
I have the same problem on mine. When I shift it back in Drive position, sometimes it doesnt tilt back and sometimes it only tilts back partially.
Any ideas? Anyone ever bring this to the dealer to fix? I emailed my dealer but haven't heard from them yet. |
I took mine to the dealer for this same problem. My SA had supposedly never seen this before. I find that hard to believe. Anyway, I have a new mirror on order and just need to find time to take it in.
You have three options. First, try putting it back into drive then reverse then drive again. Sometimes that will trigger it. Second, hit your programed seat button. That readjusts all the mirrors and will return your side one back up. (Thanks to Ryan for this tip). Third, just turn the feature off and you wont have anything to worry about. :) Hope this helps! |
