X3 Tailgate Handle

I was opening the tailgate on my wife's new 3.0 SD sport a couple of days ago. It was raining hard and my fingers slid off the rubber and caught on a fairly sharp strip of metal above it. I have two fairly deep cuts in my fingers.

I phoned the dealer and asked if there should be a piece of trim covering this blunt razor or whether the handle was improperly fitted. He came back with the astonishing information that they were all like that! Also, I was (of course) the first customer to complain. I said that I felt more like sueing than complaining!

It seems incredible that a company such as BMW can leave bare metal edges such as this waiting to catch you out, particularly in the USA where people are so ready to sue. Has anyone else had a problem with this edge? Maybe ours is sharper than average.

How many stitches? Did you apply pressure until you got to the ER?

I used steristrips but I was more interested in whether they really are all the same.

I checked mine. I think the part you're referring to is plastic rather than metal. In any case, mine is not sharp enough to cut.

You are quite right it is plastic. I must assume that mine hadn't been finished correctly. Anyway, as it wasn't metal I gave the edge a rub with some wet and dry so it is no longer sharp. Only needed a few strokes.

thanks for the help.

You're welcome. Do you work for the organisation with the same name as your screen name?

No I don't but I'll probably be needing one (a stairlift) soon!

Interesting point though. In about 1984 I decided computing and programming was more interesting than doctoring so started a company called Meditek Computer Services and my 'handle' goes back to then. If Meditek existed then, they were invisible. I've only noticed them in the last 10 years or so and always felt they pinched my name! Anyway, I've been retired for 8 years so can't say it bothers me now.

Crazy. I will check mine tonight.
