Tranny and Diff fluids?
Has anyone had them changed? My finacee bought an 2005 X3 3.0 with about 50,000 miles. I'd like to have these fluids changed out. Any recommendations? I have an E46 manual where the tranny (Redline MTL) and the Rear diff fluid (Redline 75 w 90) are very easy to change out...
Mike from Tech Talk said I need to go to the Stealership for the tranny and the Transfer case to use the BMW fluids and since their capacities are not known. Just wondering if anyone has had these fluids changed... Thanks |
tranny diff fluids
after talking to dealers and reading x5 posts, i have decided on 75w90 for the front axle. and 75w140 for the rear axle. however, use a synthetic blend for both and add a container of posi addititive to both axles as well. the transfer case and the power steering pump take dexron3 trans fliud. the auto trans takes an oem specific bmw fliud. do not use anything else. changing trans fluid has been debated. bmw says a lifetime fluid. fluid and or a filter change has caused problems leading to the replacement of the trans.

I have done both at Inspection II, but an Indy shop did that, so I'm not sure what fluid they used. I did specify OEM ATF.

I have a 2002 X5 3.0 with auto trans. I use the Pentosin ATF Synthetic Trans fluid only. I have had no problems with my transmission. I did the first service at 100K miles. I should have done it sooner. The fluid was black. I did another service about 20K miles later and the fluid looked a lot cleaner. I did change the filter both times. As for the front and rear diffs, I use a full synthetic gear oil. I did not add any additive to fluid.

Well, one thing you will get is conflicting opinions. You can read them, they are all posted, so I won't start on them again.
Just to point out that you are posting in the X3 forum, and may not get many responses here as there is far less traffic. |
Thanks, I just did a search and got all the results. I will go back and post in the E-53 section as well.
