NAV display brightness?

New here and I have a few questions about my '04 X3. I enjoy reading the forum discusions--there seem to be a lot of knowledgable owners here. Owing to my middle-aged eyesight, I like the brightness on the NAV screen at its maximum. But it won't stay that way--I'll go into settings, crank it up to its brightest, exit the settings and off I go. All is well for the current trip. Next time I get in the car, it's back to a dimmer setting and I repeat the drill. Is there a way to lock the display settings, particularly the brightness? Thanks in advance for any solutions from the board.

I have a bit of a concept problem about the way the Nav brightness works ... I find mine too dim in daylight and too bright at night. It is controlled simultaneously/collectively by the brightness setting in the option menu, by a photocell on the side of the monitor and by the panel light dimmer on the LCM :yikes:

I find that in daylight, it doesn't seem to matter much what the brightness setting in the options menu is ... it seems to be just controlled by the photocell. But at night the brightness setting and the panel dimmer all adjust it to a certain degree.

I actually took mine in because the brightness control wouldn't make the display brighter during the day, but needless to say it came back as no fault found, and the SA 'demonstrated' that it did in fact work, though not as I expected it should.

Perhaps someone can tell us both how to get the damned thing adjusted so it is correct for both day and night viewing :D
