Retro Rear Screens
I am going to install some rear screen headrest to keep the kiddy's amused on long trips. The type i will be getting are replacement headrests with the screen and DVD play built in. They power from a cigraette lighter but i want to run discreet wiring so they are live with the ignition.
The cables run through the centre of the two metal headrest supports and by removing the back of the front seats I can thread the cable inside the seat under the carpet. My question is where is the best place to pick up the power so they work with the ignition on ?? Many thx |
Not a lot of folks in the US have bothered with this in the X3, so not a lot of responses.
Why not purchase the BMW rear seat system? They're integrated into the rear headrests and have headsets for each one. |

cheers for the response guys. Hae been looking into this and I can get the leather matching headrests, built in DVD players zip up covers (so not on display) wireless headphones and game controllers for £220 delivered. The look is pretty damn close to OEM, but the price is much cheaper.
I don't want any wires on show to maintain the OEM look. Having read up on this I am going to run the wires inside the posts, inside the seat, through under the centre consol and pick up the cigar lighter power. Will post some pics when done in about a months time unless anyone advises against picking up the power form the cigar lighter ?? |

Looking at the WDS, it looks like the cigarette lighter sockets are permanently live off fuse F47. You need a switched live terminal. I'll see if I can find something suitable off the WDS for you.

Cheers Trapdoor, might have known it would not be that easy. I have the underarmrest autochanger would tht help.
Ideally want to get a feed from the armrest area, purely because its easy to get to. Alternatively happy to run cables through to the boot so could pick up there (where though is the question):dunno: |
