Just got rid of my 02 530i msport w/ 5 speed stick @ 2500 lbs. My cons1 consistantly showed 24.5 mpg for the same 3.0 inline 6.

That sounds very light for a 530. The published spec for an 02 530 is 3500 lbs, even before you put options like the Msport kit on it.

While vehicle weight matters, wheel weight matters more, unless you are driving at a constant speed. Accelerating and braking wheels takes much more energy than accelerating and braking sprung weight, due to the rotational inertia involved.

BTW - What is the definition of Sprung vs. Unsprung weight?
