Failed transfer box ...
After having my 2004 X3 3.0i back to the dealer more times than I care to remember for what I thought was AT problems, they have had my car for a whole week now and have finally decided (with BMW technical input) that I have a failing transfer box. Oh, and my Climate Control panel which the display was flickering has finally gone pop too and is blowing fuses apparently :wow:
I now have to wait for between 2 weeks and a month as this transfer box is special order, and it will go in sometime end of March for another week to have this part replaced. Does anyone have any experience of a failed Transfer box and know how big a job it is to replace it? (engine, AT, axles etc out?) I'm quite elated that they have found the fault but am somewhat anxious that they may stuff something up. Is it worth getting them to change any of the other fluids at the same time, which if it's worthwhile I will pay for? - car has 43,000 miles. I mean if they have everything out and it's just a 30 minute job and a few litres of fluid it may be worth it? Any info on the above gratefully received. |
dont dont need to remove the trans, just the driveshafts.
