After Market Rims and offset
 

I am shopping for aftermarket rims for my X3 (3.0) for snow tires.

The original rim is 17X8 with +46 offset and one wheel dealer says he has 17X8 with 38 offset and that its fine for the X3.

I'd appreciate advise on whether the above is true, and what is the potential negative effect of using rims with wrong offset.

from what I hear its the same offset as the E46, so that's in the range and should be ok

Someone with an E46 wanted to buy my stock X3 rims... but I'm still not sure if they are compatible :(
