bluetooth/radio general ?s

I just bought my first x3. It's an 04. I found out after purchase my Bluetooth doesn't work and I'm not about to spend 1200 for the upgrade.

Can anyone recommend an after market piece?

Has anyone replaced the radio with an aftermarket? Recommended?

anything I need to know about the X3 as a new owner?

thanks!

Hello to everyone. I was also upset to find out that the Bluetooth we spent money on with the Premium Package of our '04 X3 doesn't work. I would be interested in a recommendation as well. Thank you.

I think i'm going with the parrot 9200. I want to keep the factory system and i think that is the best option. ordered one on ebay for 235 w/shipping.

I think BMW Bluetooth Retrofit Information is one of the merchants that offer OEM integration, and with a fair number of others. Runs around $700 since one needs a new Telecommunications module.

2004 X3s did not come with Bluetooth, even if you had a BT Passcode.

The Parrot requires extra parts and an expensive installation charge to complete the system, and you end up with an extra odule hanging off of your dash. The BMW is more expensive, but it takes 15 minutes to install, and you can do ti yourself. I got mine for $700, and it is totally intgerated with the stereo and NAV screen. The quality is awesome! The Parrot is a good unit, from what I have read, but looks tacked on, and requires extra stuff that cost more in parts in installation for a totally integrated (sound goes down when the call comes in) install. Plus you have to let some straner hack into your car. Many will do as much harm as good. The BMW ended up costing me < $200 more, and it didn't even violate the remainder of my warranty. If you have NAV, it is even better. The BMW has full voice recognition, and is really well designed.

If you supposedly have bluetooth and it doesn't work, make a quick trip to the dealer and they should be able to give you a hand, possible in the service drive in a minute or two. They can confirm whether you have it or not, and give you the bluetooth code and help you pair it up if you do.

04 X3s don't have Bluetooth.

motorola ihf 1000

i have installed the motorola ihf 1000 blue tooth system in my x3. the control boxes for the system are hidden under the ash tray, the speaker is mounted on the dead pedal (does not get in the way when using the clutch) and the mic, i ran up to the sun roof control panel. there is a small 5 button control that i have on the dash near where nav screen would be(i just have the storage compartment) you can have this system installed but it isnt all that painful.
