This is a shot from the BMW site, so I assume it's "factory" tinting. That looks close to 20%. I'm going to try mimic this.

But, correct me if i'm wrong-- when you order factory tinting from BMW even though they outsource it's not a film, right? It's more "in" the glass?

I thought there were various methods of tinting, the cheapest/ugliest being a film that sits on top of the glass.

Yes, like I said previously, factory tint is completed by impregnating the glass with color or dip the glass into liquid tint solution. Factory tint is done during the production process, not at the dealership.

Go to a tint place, ask to see their work, pick the one you like. They will more than likely have vehicles there with factory tint that the are trying to match so you will get an idea of what it will look like.

It won't be cheap though...would have been cheaper (and easier) to have factory ordered it, but live and learn.

I found a place that gave me a quote of $150. I think that's for all 7 back windows. The place is in Brooklyn and has pretty good customer reviews.

That seems really cheap to me, but being from Canada, that might be right on for down there.

My wagon was about $500 and I helped him take the car apart as he removed the windows for the doors completely so you couldn't see the tint.
