Brakes: Front & Rear
It looks like it's time to replace the brakes on the X3. I've poked around the web and found some really good instructions on changing out the front brake rotors and pads, but nothing on the rear brakes. Are they about the same?
I'm kind of pressed for time, so I may or may not do this myself. Any ideas on how much it would cost to replace the Front & Rear rotors, pads, and sensors using all OEM parts? THANKS! |
I don't own an x3 but do own and x5 currently and previously owned an e36 3 series and an e39 5 series and have done brakes on all 3 vehicles. The brake procedures were the same on all 3, front and rear.

I've done front and rear rotors and pads on my X3, and it is pretty straight forward.
these instructions are for an X5, but the X3 is almost identical. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...e-job-diy.html My only issue as that the dog ran off with one of the duct caps and i had to chase him to get it back! I bought oem pads and brake sensors off ebay, and then bought DBA rotors here in Australia. Ended up costing me about a third of the price i was quoted by two BMW dealers to have it done. |
The dealer quoted me ~$1200 for the brake job. I ordered the parts from the web and did it myself in 3 hours (F & R). I couldn't believe how "easy" it was with the instructions. THANKS!
