Stagger Wheels / Tire Rotation?

Hi all,

I currently have the following stagger rims and tires set up:
- Front = 235/50ZR18
- Rear = 255/45ZR18

Since the front and rear are not the same sizes, they cannot be rotated between the front and back

And since the tires are "Directional" tires (don't think it matters which side wall of the tires is the outer / inner side), I have to detach the tires from the rims, then swap the tires only (FL with FR; RL with RL).

Given the above set up and the X-Drive's variable torque on each wheel at times, is it still worth doing the rotation? The tires have done about 13k KM so far.

Thanks

If you have directional staggered tires, you can't rotate a thing unless you are dismounting the tires and remounting them on the opposing wheel. (which is what you did). For that time and cost, rotation is only necessary if you are burning the tires out fast. On a staggered setup you may as well just plan on the purchase of new tires and not rotate them. At least, that is what I do with mine. Just got to replace the 315/35/20's boy was that fun and inexpensive.

4 wheel alignment

a 4 wheel alignment might be just as effective

we just had one on the X3 with 24K miles, $149 from our stealer
the rear tires are cupping on the inside and make a L O T of noise

the only non paved driving we've done was on some logging roads in Oregon 100 miles

the rear was pretty bad, right front needed a little, left front was ok

I DO swap tires from side to side on my 91 300ZX TT, it has 145K miles and needs new springs

I knew a guy that got new tires for his 300Z (if you don't know it's got staggered tires) from some tire join in a small town. When he got it back, it had the small tires on one side, and the large ones on the other! We're still giving him crap about that one!

Mounting and dismounting tires just to rotate seem extremely tedious. Just leave them alone and drive. ;)

I just leave my staggered setup alone. For the cost of removing, installing, rebalancing, etc, it's not worth it.
