Just Finished Angel Eye Installation

After weeks of being jealous of all of you with angel eyes, and several more weeks telling myself the job was to big for me to do I bought the Chroniun eyes from JLEVI. I will say it wasn't hard, but if wasnt easy either. For anyone thinking about this I will just say take your time. Here are a couple of mishaps I had.

I did not take my bumber cover off. The headlight will come out but you have to have a perfect angle. It probably would have been faster removing the cover.

This may sound funny, but measure your oven. My house is 7 years old, and the oven is not one of the largest out there. The headlights barely fit.

Mounting the rings was the hardest part for me. JLEVI suggested using either double sided tape or glue for this. They stated they usually use the tape, and since I had some 3M double sided tape that is what I went with. It was hard to position the small ring because there was not alot of space to mount it on. I cleared out my lenses, and I think that was the main issue. If I left in the front waffle grids this would not have been an issue.

I took a few pictures, I will add more tonight after work.

As for the pictures it keeps saying my file is too big, what should I do?

You need to download this Jpeg Resizer program. Its simple and FREE.

Congrats on the install  Welcome to the select few X3'ers w/ Angel Eyes. I only know of four people (including me and you) that have done it.

I did not remove my bumper either. You can remove the four screws on top of the kidney grills to give you more room to angle out the headlights. That is what I did and I had no troubles removing and reinstalling the headlights. Were you able to remove your windshield wiper tank? (this gives you more access to the left headlight) I removed the one bolt holding it on but I still couldn't move it. Felt like there was something else holding it down. :dunno:

I went with silicone II. Doubleside tape just seems too weak for me. I didn't want to take the chance of it falling off and needing to open up the housing a second time to fix it. Plus can't you see the doublesided tape? SiliconeII seem like a cleaner install. I found that removing the chrome rings to glue on the angel eyes is the easiest.

Congrats on the install Will! Can't wait to see the pics!

Congratulations! Look forward to the photos!

Does you car have Xenon lights? Does the Angel Eye can be installed on a non-Xenon X3?

Thanks.

Here are the pictures of my 01 X-5 with my new toys. I would once again like to thank the guys at Jlevi for all of their help. I sent them a panic e-mail last night at midnight about my mounting concerns, and within 10 minutes I received the help I needed. My X has the regular halogen headlights.

aaron 01-07-2006 01:30 AM

nice job, i am looking towards doing the same thing on my X

X5Jay 01-07-2006 07:52 AM

Nice job - they look great!

drex 01-07-2006 08:20 AM

awesome!

well, my last headlight is baking to be reassembled, and the majority of the video installation guide (yes, we taped each and every step) is filmed. going to work on the harness side of the situation, and install, and then cut and edit the video....

an X5world exclusive -- part of the beginning of X5world 2.0 -- there are a bunch of new features coming in the next few weeks.

nice job!
since you took out the waffle grids, is there any change with the beam pattern or the cutoff line of the xenons? or even the high beams?

I am not sure yet. Last night it only came out for the photo shoot. Before I did it I asked a couple of other people on this forum about that and everyone said there was no problem. For me the clearing out the headlights was the most important thing. Even without the angel eyes the clear look really highlights your ride.

Here are a few more pictures of my X-5. I am very proud of it and wanted to post some pictures that show the entire vehicle, and not just the headlights.

With doing the install myself I saved a ton. With the new Stealth bulbs and the Angel Eyes, and shipping I am under $200.00 for everything.

We have most customers wire them into the ECU for power. This way they will be on whenever the car is on. In addition our kits come with a built in remote kit so they fade on when you unlock the car with your factory remote and fade off when you lock the car with your factory remote.

TiSi4.6is 01-20-2006 08:27 PM

HELP....HELP....HELP... I'm in the middle of installing the angel lights and don't know what wire I should connect my angels to. The instruction said to tap into the daytime running lights but this doesn't work... it only work when i turn my highbeams on... Please help.... Thanks! I have a 02 4.6

drex 01-20-2006 08:49 PM

check out the WDS for somewhere to plug in...

TiSi4.6is 01-20-2006 09:41 PM

Drex... Its a stupid question but what is WDS?

It's the BMW Wiring Diagram System.

TiSi4.6is 01-21-2006 03:06 AM

Thanks JLevi, UcrewX5 and drex. I just got done installing my AEs they look awesome. I couldnt locate the WDS and or the ECU. For now I removed the high beam lights and connected to the high beam plugs, with this I have to turn the beam on. Anyone has pictures or a way to locate the WDS? The high beam lite on the cluster is starting to get to me. Also my PDC is going nuts!

imaznumkay 01-21-2006 11:02 AM

open up the hood, go to the far left/passenger side of the windshield...you should see a box
but you cannot open it up yet because you have to remove the plastic "rain guide(?)" to get to the ECU...

How did you clear out the headlights? Did you just take the plastic amber piece off or get a whole new set of headlights?

rebound 01-25-2006 09:58 PM

BMWERKEN, I think I know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway - I don't have xenons, can I still install AE's?

You can, but you might need to special order them. The xenon version will not fit your halogen low beams. The size of the rings on the xenon is different than the size of the halogen low beam. Contact Jlevi. They will get you the right size.

I did take the amber piece out. You have to be careful because there is a silver piece of plastic that holds it in place. If you are not careful you can crack the front of your headlight. There are also 5 screws around the perimeter of the headlight that you must remove to get at the waffles.

Nick@Jlevi SW 01-28-2006 08:34 PM

Actually our kits are universal for Xenon and Halogen :)

simoncpw 01-28-2006 11:14 PM

Really? The top of the page says "Predator ThinLine X3 (Xenon Only)"!!!

Can it be fitted onto the X3 with Halogen? I would buy order it rid the way if it does!!! (as soon as I find a way to bake the headlights, I don't have an oven!)

Nick@Jlevi SW 01-29-2006 03:57 PM

Send me an email, I will find out if we can get you the correct low beam ring.

Nick@Jlevi SW 02-04-2006 05:50 PM

I just got word from our manufacturer that we can do Angel Eyes for X3's equipped with halogens. Just mention it in the comments on checkout :)
