Black on terracotta build

Hi everyone ! I'm new here figured I'd post my build so far ...i sold my ML Mercedes to a buddy of mine so i needed a replacement i really loved my ML so i was trying to find a nice ml500 but that was not going well, i then looked into e46 xi wagons and i loved the idea but i just dont really like e46's and the e53 was out of the question as i have enough fun replacing suspension parts once every Wednesday on my e38, so i began a search for an e83 x3. after quiet a few months i found what seemed like the perfect one for me with beautiful Terracotta interior! went and looked at it and hated it at first as he was asking too much imo. so i told him to let me know if he wants to get rid of it for cheap and drove 2 hours home haha. so a few days later i get a call saying he wants to unload the car as the sunroof is now inop and stuck open i negotiate and set a price and leave in the morning to pick the car up. fortunately for me this gentlemen was not very intelligent and didnt want to take the 15 mins it took me to re sync the roof after replacing the battery so problem solved ;) on to pix

Please tell me about the 'qx4 fog retro'. Where did you get them and how did you install.

E38flagship 11-18-2014 06:49 PM

Here's a small diy I did on bf.c basically all I did was cut the sealant around the lens popped the old lens out and used some nice RTV to re seal them. The infinity ones just come right out they aren't sealed in, you either need to buy a whole set of infinity fogs and take them apart to get the lens or do so at the yard, that's what I did. The sealing method I used worked great and I have had no issues with them what so ever

Cool x3 mod

05e83 11-18-2014 07:34 PM

Very nice. Do you know the year infinity?

Looks good. Our X3 has done very well in winter conditions, but rock chips from sanding the roads are taking a toll after 8 years.

In an earlier post you mentioned non NJ German build. New Jersey? North Carolina? Our X3 was built in Austria by a contractor, Magna Steyr, and I had thought all the E83s were.

E38flagship 02-16-2015 10:35 PM

i thought the Spartanburg plant was nj but looks like your right, also I misread the 2010+ is us apparently x3 was a lot different than x5

E38flagship 10-01-2015 06:25 PM

Hey guys been a while since I have updated =] got some nice Thule roof racks and grabbed another set of wheels I'm going to refinish for next summer !

I'm actually super interested in the city lights, just noticed the gf's e83 already has the openings for them in the reflector, but wondering where/from what other vehicle you get the bulb carriers and connectors.

E38flagship 10-01-2015 11:06 PM

I had some hanging around I forgot from what but you can buy 194 holders off eBay mine are just wired to the fog lights

2X T10 168 194 2825 927 928 W5W Light Bulb Wire Wiring Harness Sockets | eBay

Onizukachan 10-01-2015 11:21 PM

So no special et fingers like on e32/34/30 etc required? Very cool.
I'd probably do them like my e34 by disconnecting the corner park lead and leaving those corner bulbs as turn signal only.

Nice updates, mine is barebones but looking to add a sport wheel. You know if steering wheel remotes would work?

E38flagship 11-11-2015 02:43 AM

Yessir everything still works

Court X3 11-11-2015 06:51 AM

Cool thanks for the info, was afraid I'd have a cool wheel without any functions available. We didn't even order Cruise control

E38flagship 11-11-2015 11:47 AM

So you have a non multifunction steering wheel ? No radio buttons, phone, cruise ? I'm pretty sure if you add the wheel you will get the radio controls but you might need to add the slip ring as I assume your car probably has the wiring tucked away in the column. Also you can add the obc if you don't have it but adding as "bc" blinker stalk and using BMW soft ware to code for it. I did this to my buddy's e46

E38flagship 02-29-2016 10:28 PM

Redid my steering wheel trim with a nice product I found on eBay !

I have the same tire profile on my car as the M sport (235/50-18) about 2 months ago I bought new tires from tirerack. Kumho ecsta lx platinum they are all season tires and preform great in the snow ! They were $96 a piece!

E38flagship 01-12-2018 07:07 PM

For headlights I wet sand them starting at ~600 it’s they are very bad start at ~400. Then you sand and sand 600—800—1000—1500—2000 when you get to 2000 paper I use my buffer and go from heavy cut pad with compound to med—light—polish I used 4 pads then I seal with wax :)

E38flagship 01-23-2018 07:38 PM

This is the sparkly color black/grey finish that came on 04 e83 it seems to be a lot more durable than the 05+ rubbery type trim coating. My brothers 04 has this trim and it is original and appears almost new! I got 3 trims for a local salvage and the main one I bought new :)

E38flagship 02-09-2018 10:39 PM

Today I added a nice feature that I loved in my e38 but did not come in my e83. This is the auto dimming side view mirror, unfortunately I’m going to stick with the single drivers side (much like Mercedes does) . Luckily I found a nice mirror on eBay and transferred everything into my mirror :) made my own harness and ran my wires up to pins 5/4 of the rear view
