Question re electronic black instrument panel

Wondering if anyone know whether you need to special order the new black instrument panel (i.e. the one used in the new 5 series) otherwise you will get the old analog instrument panel? or the xdrive35i comes standard with the new black instrument panel?

Also, does dynamic damping control comes with the 8-speed sports auto transmission?

Thanks!

Which BMW marketing organization (and thus, which of three configurations) are you referring to? NA as displayed in your profile is pretty broad.

The 5er does not have the same "Black Panel" instrument panel as the 7er; on the X3 and 5er, the numbers for the dials are permanent. So if you're asking if the X3 will be like the 5er, the answer is yes. The speedometer, tachometer, fuel, and coolant temp are analog.

The difference will lie in the Board Computer display and Energy Control gauge (instant consumption). In vehicles without navigation or Business Navigation, the computer display is smaller and the Energy Control is analog. In vehicles with Professional Navigation, the display is expanded under the tachometer and the Energy Control is digital. With the higher-spec instrument panel, it is also possible to display other info, such as Music/Artist info on your current track, radio station, etc...

I've attached pics from the owner's manual for ease of visualisation.

Thanks for the clarification. Guess even the top model 35i without Prof Navigation will also have the cheaper version of the speedo display. Wondering if you have any real life pic showing the the OnBoard Computer display and Energy Control gauge without Prof Navigation? Do you know if the display lighting will be orange in color or same as the better display that will change from daylight setting to night setting? Tried to search the web but only see pics of the better display. Thanks in advance.

I frequent this other forum, based in Germany. They've had X3s on display for over a month now and some are taking delivery thesedays.

Pic #9 is the closest I can find. In all X3s regardless of trim level, the numerals are white on black when the lights are not on; amber on black when lights are on.

At some point, on BMWUSA, but the 2011 X3 manual isn't there yet. It should be up soon. Look under owners, owner's manuals.
