Very weird tail light issue
 

I've seen all the posts about the contact points, etc. and I've replaced my tail light assembly so I don't think that is the issue I'm having. My bottom drivers side bulb doesn't work, however it does work if I hook it up to the passenger side wiring. Attached are 4 pics...

1. Left assembly hooked up on left side
2. Left assembly hooked up on right side
3. Right assembly hooked up on right side
4. Right assembly hooked up on left side

This issue has driven me nuts and I haven't found anyone that can help. My last resort is to take it into the stealer as I'm past due for a state inspection. TIA for any help you may be able to provide

I have the same problem with my X5. I would be interested in what the problem turns out to be.

Have you tried tracing the tail light socket leads to their plug pin outs to see if there are any differences per side? Also compare pin outs of the vehicle harness while you're at it.

You mentioned you replaced assemblies, can you compare the old tail light pin outs to the above?

I remember reading in the LED tail light threads that some people had to mess with switching positions on the harness plug to make their tails work right. Although you replaced standard tails with another set of standard tails, it may be the same situation in your case, especially with aftermarket units. Are your new tails OE or aftermarket?

I had to swap pins on my tails, on my 2003 to be specific when I plugged in my LED tails. The wiring obviously has changed over the years

I don't know if this will answer your question, but search for prefacelift/post faceliftr E53 tails. There is 1 or 2 pins you need to shift over if you have OEM post facelift that is going to be installed on a pre if I recall.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I just got back from the dealer and they say the lamp control module (LCM) is faulty and has to be replaced. They of course want $900 for the repair.

Any other ideas?? TIA

I also assume they 100% guarantee with money back refund granted if it doesnt fix the problem?
