Low Idle

I have a 2001 e53. I have been having trouble with a low idle while I am at a stop position with it in drive. I have checked MAF for leaks and have have found none. I have also changed the ICV and the camshaft sensor and there is no change. I am thinking maybe I need new spark plugs. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

How low is it? What's the tach showing in neutral and in drive with your foot on the brake? Always post as much info as you can.
Do you know what it was before this problem? Have you changed anything?
What motor?

Stock idle on the 4.8is is 600 with loads off and car in drive, and 700 with ac on etc.

You can adjust this in GT1/dis but only +/- 50rpm.

I adjusted mine from 600-650 with loads off, and 700-750 with ac on, last night in the dme. Car idles extremely smooth cant feel the engine running almost.

That seems fine. Unless it lopes or hunts I wouldn't worry about it. Nice dash light fix...

I agree the needle looks fine. Should be around 600 rpm in drive and 700 at idle not in gear. If your in D and have the a/c running then it should be around 700.

Can you tell us why you think the idle is low? Is it vibrating really bad when in gear shopped? or is it surging when stopped in gear?

Just need more info.

The black tape is not covering the check engine light, this is on the other end of the display. It's covering something to do with the ABS or related system.

The idle speed looks fine. Why do we think it is low? What is the symptom?

Why do you think the idle is low? Is there a problem that makes you think it must be because of low idle?

Looks perfectly fine to me.

Your tach needle is in the correct position, however if your experiencing roughness in the idle, I'd first inspect for a vacuum leak. There are several small hoses and fittings that come off the main intake elbow that can cracked.

How many miles are on your sparkplugs - over 75,000 miles? Do you use fuel additives? Are your drives generally short trips? A yes to any or all of those questions might indicate time to change the plugs.

2004 325i 118,000 miles
