Welcome to Chicago, the new issue with the X5
 

So after a great weekend i come back to the garage across from UIC where i parked. Couldn't find the truck so i get parking enforcement, I tell the guy its a blacked out BMW x5....the response "i know exactly what your talkin about, your window got smashed" at this point i'm like wait what? I get to the X5 and low and behold my window was smashed, they tried taking the headrest but couldnt and i guess in the effort to take that saw my laptop bag with not only my laptop but alot of important files and took that. They also broke the lock on the drivers side door >.< cant upload pictures here on my phone but they are soon to come. Welcome to good old Chicago.

Who leaves a laptop in a car, parked in public parking?

^^^and in Chicago of all places? I mean its not exactly the post Giuliani NYC lets be honest here, Chicago is in the top 10 of crime if I'm not mistaken nowadays.

Take off any distinguishing stickers, lighting, etc off the X5 and tint your windows for privacy. You can also replace the door lock on the drivers door with a blank keyhole and cap from the passenger side so they can't just pop the lock, because honestly that is the easiest thing for thieves. Just make sure your battery is good on your master key.

Yeah wasn't the smartest thing to do. It was hidden pretty good and was in a pretty populated area of the garage. Its right across from the student center which is where everyone is at as well. Windows have limo tint as well. Was definatly a bad idea to leave the laptop, Chicago i think is among the top 5 for crime. Its a great city but there's just alot of people with no respect or ethics. Very sad.

I never leave anything in my X. I have mine in the garage and I still don't leave anything inside. When I get my N6 I'm going to make some type of dummy radio faceplate just to put over the N6 so they won't break into my X.

I live on the SS and around here a certain "Group" of people tend to be around late at night just browsing for stuff to steal. Your lucky that was at UIC and not somewhere else. Don't leave anything inside your car. They will break your window for loose change.

Lmao yeah, yeah it's a sad truth but you really can't have anything nice in the city. Maybe if we implemented UAE rules (if you steal your hands get cut off) people would think twice. Yeah i thought about the gofundme thing, I hate handouts myself so i took it down.

My mother had her e53 broken into-- popped off door lock cover, inserted a screw driver and boom, windows open, doors unlocked.
