Different kind of Panoramic problem. Front Panel.
Hi XOutposters.
I need some help with another (but different) type of Pano-Sunroof problem. They other day it was fairly nice out, so I decided to crack the roof open for the first time since fall. (I should mention that my rear panel hasn't worked since I bought the car. Never had it, so I don't know what I'm missing.) So, had the front in vent, and wanted a bit more sky. I attempted to lower front, and slide it back. Front panel got caught in a position that's a combo of both slide+vent. A small gap at the front, yet vented in the back. When I got home I discovered it got caught on the back panel, since it was semi-slid back. Found a YouTube video with the ol' hammer / flat head rear panel closing trick. Even though the back panel has never moved, the lifters must have always been a bit forward. After sliding the back panel lifters back into position the front panel still wouldn't budge, and the rear portion of it was at a slight angle. I whipped out the Bently manual and decided to investigate the problem. Removed the front panel and found the driver's side track to not match the passenger's position for the sliding attachment. After much work, and some blood, I was able to put the slider back in place, and have both sides match on the track. I then had the audacity apparently to try and move the mechanism before I remounted the glass. The mechanism and center drip tray immediately retreated all the way back inside the roof and will not move. After some searching on here and Google, I found a thread about a similar situation posted by Allamer35 from Bimmerfest: Sunroof Stuck Wide Open S.O.S! Memphis, TN - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums. His issue turned out to be a cracked gear inside the sunroof motor. I pulled mine, and no crack. Other info: -It is/was impossible to manually close the sunroof by hand using the torx tool in the motor. -I tried to reinitialize the sunroof on the way home, at first instance of getting stuck. -I also tried at this last point to reinitialize, again to no avail. Any help would be great! Thanks |
