Here is a picture of what looks like a diode on the grn/white wire.
The side where the alligator clip is the side that goes somewhere. The other side, a solid grn wire, goes to the plug. No 12v on the grn/wht. Key on I get continuity from the grn/wht to ground with the neg clip on the grn/wht and the pos wire on the multimeter to ground. No continuity with with mulitmeter wires reversed. There is no continuity on the grn side of the diod. I don't understand how 12v could be on the grn/wht when there is a diode in the line that would stop the 12v from getting to the plug. Do I misunderstand the diode symbol? |
What happens if the OP uses their other key? Just asking because it's been brought up in several BMW forums that when the new style keys are left in the ignition and the battery dies...there have been multiple cases where that key no longer worked to start the vehicle...whereas another key for that vehicle will work.

Yeah, it looks grn/wht in the picture but it is solid green on the plug side of the diode.
Fuse 15 in the glove box is 5A. Am I looking at the wrong fuse? I have 3 keys, tried them all. |
The wire color at the connector to the alternator is solid green. Solid green goes to the diode looking thing and then grn/wht from there.
The gen light on the dash is still lit if that means anything. |

Do you know if the gear indicator on the dash moves with the key on, engine off, when you shift the lever. Mine does not at the moment. |
