Paying the INDY for triple work.....
OK.....X is in the shop. Indy has warrantied the timing cover gasket once already as it was leaking....post repair of another repair he did.
The X is back in the shop again, as it's leaking from the gasket again. He's covering it....should be I give him a $200 or $300 coffee money.... |
You're going to have to make a judgement call given the situation. On one hand, he is providing the service you expected when deciding on that indy in the first place. On the other hand, they are stepping up to the plate when something goes wrong and footing the bill themselves on a time consuming job, and good customer service can be hard to find. Keeping the indy happy is never a bad idea

If you are willing to give 15% to someone just to bring food to you, you should at least give the mechanic something for his SERVICE.

Depending on the relationship you have with the mechanic, in Australia it would be common to buy them a case of decent beer as a starter. Often non-monetary "thank you's" work well over here.
If you feel like they're doing the right thing by you, it's worth doing the right thing by them. |
I always tip when my mechanic goes out of his way for me...

I've never done the food route.
For my tuning/performance shop, I once brought back 5 growlers of craft beers figuring him and the boys would down at once the day was done. About 4 months later when I visited, the growlers was still there.....money wasted, but the intentions/appreciation for him was there. |

I would prob bring him a case of beer just for his honesty in covering his work. Ask him what he drinks, maybe a nice bottle of whisky
|
Or just buy him lunch.
