DISA question - clunk noise

Hi all, today I replaced my intake boot as it was falling apart and I removed the DISA to get to it.

From reading on here, as long as there's resistance and it's not falling apart or making strange noises, it should be fine.

It seems fine, resistance is strong and everything seems in overall good condition.

My only question is, when moving the flap, there's a clunk noise when I release it when it's returning to its original position.

Is this normal?

Thanks! :)

Is the clunk from the flap hitting home in the rest position? That would be normal IMO.

Nope, it happens on its way back to the home position?

The clunk sound is likely from the vacuum drum that operates the flap in either an open or closed position.

It does sound like it's coming from the drum. I wonder if it's supposed to do that, or if it's on its way out?

Here's a quick youtube video that demonstrates how to check the vacuum drum. You may also hear the normal "clunk" you're concerned about.

Excellent, thank you! When I replaced my intake boot, I accidentally forgot to plug the disa back in and I noticed no noticeable differences in how it drove. I plugged it back in tonight and again, no difference. Someone should make a blanking plate for it... would make a fortune!
