the ASC updating takes about 1/2 hour with SSS progman.

For someone who has little knowledge about this process, could you please provide a step by step list of what I should do? I have already serviced the transmission (filter, seal, fresh ATF followed up by another drain & refill). The only scanner I have is PA soft which I've used on one occasion only.
The PO had the alternator changed over, just before I purchased the vehicle and said that the battery had gone completely flat at one stage. This lends me to think that a re-flash of the mechatronics is required, along with anything else needed to get my ZF six speed to work as it should. I have no idea where to get the software/re-flash or update for the ASC module. Are these readily available on the internet or can someone please provide them? All suggestions/advice gratefully accepted.

You need a laptop Win7 64 bit, the faster proc. the better, at least 4Gb mem & reasonable Hd. You can find used Dell's for around 100$ then you need to buy this here
Then you need to get familiar with the software. Normally when programming, you need a 40Amp power supply (newer BMW's need 70Amp). They prefer the Deutronic DBL800, but it's very expensive.
I was successful using a 12 Amp battery charger (not recommended for programming) so your risk.
The cheapest power supply I found is around 450-500 Us $, which is out of reach for me looking at the exchange rate from CAD.....

For those less computer savvy, where can we get this computer work done.
Not interested in going to the dealer.
What computer would an Indy need to own to do this?

usually they use Autologic

the Romanian software is "plug-and-play", meaning you install it and it runs without the need of circumventing through VM, etc. Everything is done for you.
The only thing one needs to do is start the head (OBD II) - it has detailed instructions, very easy to do.
if one doesn't know how to operate SSSProgman, GT1, INPA, there are some tutorials on line (you have to skip the VM ware steps - already automated). Also on Youtube there are some programming vids shown, you just need to use common sense and select what you need - do a search before or look in the Bentley for the BMW acronyms of modules and such.

Thanks for your extensive reply Doru. Yes - I read all about the Romanian sofware and how helpful the seller is. Unfortunately, he won't ship to Australia (listed in the exclusion countries for some reason). Is there anyway of sharing the software at all or would any member here be willing to help me out?

I was able to contact sellers that did not ship to Canada for example, and usually after one or 2 e-mails asking directly about shipping charges and that I am willing to pay & wait, they changed the listing so I can purchase.
The (Romanian) soft when you install, will generate a key algorithm based on your computer's hardware, and that number you will have to e-mail the seller, so he can generate a unique key afterwards for your computer, done within the day.

Regrettably, I cannot even contact the seller as this option has been deleted for Australian users on this eBay listing... If you have direct contact details for this fellow in Romania, I would be obliged if you could pass them on to me.

No problem, I will do that

Doru 10-10-2015 11:46 AM

So I contacted him, and here is his answer:

"Hello, I excluded Australia since the winter as in normal weather the packages were delivered in up to 2 weeks and in winter it took a little more to be delivered so since the buyers opened dispute cases before the packages arrived I decided not to sell there anymore.
I changed the listings a moment ago to allow Australia again and it will be left until winter:

thank you for your support,

Many thanks for your assistance Doru - I'll be adding this to my 'cart' today. No doubt, I'll be asking for a bit of guidance using the program, once it's arrived and installed on an old laptop. Hopefully this will finally sort out the few niggling problems I have with the transmission.
