6HP28x
As I read over ZF site this is a better transmission than 6HP26, but my question is will it work on 2004 4.8is, are the electronics compatible?

Interesting q you have here, the tcc lockup and improved shifting times look nice.
Seems others are asking too: http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk...-6hp28-117605/ Was the 6hp28 used in the e70 ? |
The ZF 6HP26TU/28 was used on the E70,
but only on the 4.8, until 2009, when the 8-speed replaced it for 2010, and the X6 50i, and possibly the diesel versions, as the 6HP28 was used on the X3 3.0sd high output diesel version only. And the e90 335d, but not the 335i. Also BMW referred to the 6HP28 as the 6HP26TU. To retrofit the 6HP28 to a BMW that was fitted with 6HP26 would involve so much exhaustive reprogramming- Not just simple coding that we do to enable some cool features to our BMWs! If someone could do it, and was willing to go to all the trouble, might as well fit the later 8-speed... |
Thanks finally we have some people got interested, I was afraid that I asked something very stupid:)
The real reason I asked was I already have one 6HP28X installed on my X5, this is making me a bit nervous because I have no idea about the milage of that transmission. Filter and fluid will be replaced as soon as possible (When I have some time) I don't have any warning or checklight at all, but still a bit nervous, curious about the filter type. It is a metal pan transmission. Thanks Junkycosmos & deepblonde for the informations |
I don't understand why it would be better. It most likely has the ability to handle more torque, but that would be irrelevant unless there were transmissions failing due to being under spec'd in terms of their ability to handle the engine's power.
Failures such as solenoids, actuators, harnesses, sensors, etc, are not related to the torque capability of the transmission, but are rather a result of its complexity. And I would venture to suggest that all of the various iterations of the ZF 6HP have similar levels of complexity. |
The better word came to my mind because of the gear change duration/times improved. I can not exactly remember the miliseconds but half or the less than half of the 6HP26. After a dual clutch transmission car , I am still very happy with the gear change time of this X5:)

also the 4.8i e70 rev matches the downshifts, which most likely is apart of the engine computer software and tranny computer software
