Refinishing steering wheel switch gear cover...how to remove?
I want to remove my 2004 X5 4.4 sport steering wheel center cover that covers the switches and three steering wheel spokes. I did a search,...found nothing. On my E90, there was a way to slide it off without removing anything other than a few screws on the back,....wondering if there is a similar procedure for the X5?

There's nothing about the e53 sport steering wheel in any of the 3 links at the top of the page (articles/how to's/FAQs)?

I cant post like I want because Im on my tablet...but perhaps the diagram and this DIY in one of the links at the top of the page (2004 sport steering wheel) might help or contain some info:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...004-style.html RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Sport st.whl.airbag-smart /Multifunction (FYI to those that may not know: encircled numbers in the diagram represent hardware & many times have their own index within the illustration...like in this case. Then check the QTY column in the part nbr index which most times reveals the nbr of screws/bolts/etc of that type is required. In this case NINE #3 screws are used on the steering wheel) :) http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/h/s/241.png |
Thanks Qsilver. That's helpful.

I did an entire thread with pictures on this. Try searching using google with this string "replace steering trim LVP site:xoutpost.com". It gets you this. Which has pictures.
