Looking for Downpipes/Headers & Race Cats - 4.8is
 

Hey Guys,

Who else better to ask then you, I am looking to alternative solution to the SUPER-SPRINT Headers & race cats to the 4.8is.. Reason?? Supersprint must be high on drugs to think people will pay close to $8000 for those parts still.. They should discount them at half price and consider it done.. but nope.. no go..

So do does anyone here know if there are any other manufactuers/compnies that made downpipes/headers for the 4.8is ?? or race cats??

These two parts below I need at decent price ($3000-4000) - not $8k... If any of you guys know if MAGNAFLOW or any other companies make these please.. let me know... :x I found some stuff here but does not look like anything for the 4.8is -> 2006 BMW X5 Performance Exhaust Systems at CARiD.com


I need:

1.) E53 X5 4.8is Supersprint Tubolare Performance Headers - Turner Motorsport

2.) E53 X5 4.8is Supersprint Section 1 Metallic Sport Cats (fits with Supersprint Headers) - Turner Motorsport

Alright guys I found Hamann headers that someone wants to sell for $1700 for the 4.6is and 4.8is - PART: 50 053 200

Does anyone know if the Hamann headers can plug into the STOCK Cats? or will part item 50 053 300 (Hamann SPORT HIGH-PERFORMANCE CATALYSTS ) also be needed??

The headers are $1700 from a private seller.. but the CAT's I cant find for any cheaper then $3,500!!! Ouch!! so can the HAMANN headers work with the OEM Cats?

You can get high flow magnaflow cats for like 200-300 for both. Then just take and get welded in place of factory cats.

My buddy ran them on his 4.8 with no issue.

Grab those headers! I put headers on my previous 3.0 and it made a big difference. Huge difference. You'll get a beautiful intoxicating, if not pure menacing, exhaust note on and off throttle, and it will compliment all your other mods. Slap on some good aftermarket cats and never look back!

The guy said he has the HAMANN CATS as well. (brand new) - he wants to sell me the headers & the cats for $3k ... Should i shell out the extra $1300 for the Hamann Kats?? or go with other ones for less $$?

I have seen in a thread back that supersprint e39 m5 headers might work also? Not sure but might be worth looking into.

I'd be careful ordering from overseas ebay, a lot of shady sellers. Couple of my friends got burned like that by ordering from germany through ebay. Also, make sure you find out if you have to pay any duties or customs taxes.

Does anyone know what's the diameter on Hamann ones and Supersprint headers?

Are these really for the 4.8is? PN 50 053 200 (p.6) is listed for the 4.6is?

I do not think they are at all 4.4 and 4.6is only from what i am seeing also.

SS E39 headers will work on any M62 540 or X5 4.4. The OE E39 M5 headers and M62 540 are the same. These are the SS E39 M5 headers on my supercharged E39 540:

May not be on bmws, but ive read before that alot of times the headers arent compatible with lets say a 2002 e39 4.4 motor and a 2002 x5 4.4 motor for reason being the lengths/heights etc and firewa make a difference in how their designed.

Again may be wrong but for example on my pathfinder which is a VQ35DE motor same as 350z, z headers will not fit. Same motor and rwd setup though..

Yup I noticed that too.. The guy is saying they will fit 100% on the truck.. He sent me the pic below... I am hesitant in paying the $$... because if something does not fit then, I am screwed, not only will I have to put the old headers back but will be stuck with these new ones that dont fit.. thinking it over today... he sent me this pic from HAMANN saying he had a 4.8is and sold it for a new X5M and has the parts.

Send an email to, or call up Hamann? Ask those kids. Problem solved. Maybe you can pick up a set from them directly so you feel more secure in the transaction?

Its weird. When you check the part # for the gaskets they are the same but the cats are completely different and specific to the 4.8iS. So they will bolt up out of the car and I guess it makes sense that they are routed the same but then turner states the 4.4 N62 SS headers and 4.8iS to not be compatible. :dunno:

i tried zero response. I called, I sent 2 emails. HAMANN is harder to get an answer out of then anything, especially for older parts/cars.

No error messages or trouble passing inspection?

The CATS he has are for the 4.8is tho so it might be that those headers will fit 4.8is also..

on the headers is part #50 053 301 which in HAMANN catalog says for: 4.4i, 4.8iS from MY 10/2003 Item No. : 50 053 301

Curious what would be the HP gain from these? I would assume u can compare the gain as same for Supersprint headers. Also they would require a tune to take full advantage of them also. Does anybody have any dyno sheets or logs to view that show real world gains?

Also is there any cheap way to flash these cars with a k-line or brav-tec cable? I have this ability in my 335i N54 it's pretty much open source tuning. Not sure if this platforms has that ability?

Guys fuck it I ordered it... everything $3,100 for headers & kats & shipping.. I took the risk.. fuck it.. the kats are 100% good for 4.8is... worse case I'll keep the kats & sell the headers & buy the right ones for 4.8is if they dont fit but seller is saying they will fit 100% they got them in germany stright from hamann warehouse

I am guessing you are getting these just for sound then or hoping to utilize them with a chip to take advantage of 25hp gain? If buying a chip also that's more then 150 per HP gained, steep price point need to throw an N54 engine in there haha.

I got a Dinan Stage 3 tune.. Once I install the headers/race cats I might chip it too.. we will see.. but the sound.. ohh man I cannot wait.. it will be amazing... best possible.

Ahh alright this makes sense them i am guessing the dinan stage 3 chip takes advantage of highflow cats and headers or is that another stage? The sound should be amazing for sure. I would make a custom exhaust after the cats installer vibrant resonators and tips to experience the true sound. Post of the results when they come in!

This guy who sold me the headers/kats he sent me his collection of cars, fking 2 HAMANN's and a 745... he told me he had a 4.8is and sold it 2 weeks ago for a x5M - so thats why he has these parts lying around for grabs... he said its some holiday weekend there and Monday he will send me tracking # for package.. I did it via paypal Invoice method - this way I can cancel the CC charge if something is fishy.. so once the kats/headers get here will get them installed & post a nice video.. :P

Guys to make this story even more sweet this guy personally knows Richard Hamann now with his wife Marion whom he buys everything from at half price... and that could explain a lot..

Who do you know that can do a custom tune?

The Dinan stage 3 tune is matched to Dinan components. For the 4.6 that means their throttle body, airbox and exhaust. The exhaust does not include headers.

They came today!! were in customs for few days but they finally came today... sexy looking stuff..

now for the install on Thursday or so.. first getting state inspection done so dont gotta worry about it later... wonder how the x5 will manage the new headers + race cats.. hopefully no check engine light issues just pure happiness :) .. with the resinator off h pipe + catback was a monster already.. now with the headers + race cats... hmmm... (sinister thoughts)... will post video hopefully by end of week or by next week once they are on.. :P

Congrats on a new parts:thumbup: One suggestion though, I would not hurry with install. I'd get your beast on a DYNO for preinstall #s and then post again for post install #s. This way you'd have an idea how much you gained and help share the knowledge with our community;)

I am interested in the figures myself to be honest.. I will try to find a 4WD Dyno shop around Queens/Brooklyn and try to get it done.. I am leaving the work until next week as its a decent amount of work to get the headers changed up plus welding will be probably needed to connect pipes after kats..
