Question on running N62 motor without ccv

For anyone who may have some insight,

The ccv system on a n62 motor, of course overtime can develop leaks in the lines and tears in the orange ccv rubbers.

Im sure people still drive the cars that way for a while sometimes before its fixed, but is there really any negative effects of it in a longer term? Or anything that would affect the motor much in terms of pressures/vacuums not being up to par or normal?

I know when mine had a leak sometimes it would rough idle but other then that nothing else much that i noticed.

Looking for anyones 2 cents if you have any insight/ideas... Thanks.

Why would you want to delete the system when its much simpler to replace and simpler overall than the M54?

If deleted I can imagine the vaccuum in the crankcase would be increase significantly.

Vaccum is high at idle and low under WOT. The PCV regulates the proper airflow rate for the vaccum condition.

With a damaged (open) PCV the engine will flow too much air from crankcase and lean out the idle mixture. Expect rough idle, hard starting and/or lean misfire. The DME will detect any changes in the air/fuel mixture and compensate by increasing or decreasing short term and long term fuel trim (STFT & LTFT). Extra vapor containing oil mist under high load will lower the octane rating of fuel. Lean misfire under high load could be catastrophic. The result is increased emissions, less power / wasted fuel.

With a deleted PCV system, the metered air value will always be incorrect, and the engine will lose power from increased crankcase pressure working against piston travel. The result is less power / wasted fuel.

Ok cool..

So does anyone know another method to change idle speed via gt1/dis more then the 50 extra rpm it allows you to add? I already did that.

Rease i ask about it ccv is because ive fixed my leak i had on them a month or two ago, and now its warmer and my smoke at idle is coming back and i got rid of it for 8-10 min of idling before..

Now i realized it was because of that ccv system leak, but i changed the valvelift in inpa and car would idle at 900-950 rpm, and wouldnt really smoke or take a very long hot idle to do it....

Valvetronic and the vanos creates some sort of different vacuums and such inside by the valves and even if your seals are bad it seems to make it smoke more cause of that system...

With the leaking ccv it almost got rid of it.

So now since that leaks gone even by editing the valve lift again it still idles normal like 650-700.. I need a higher rpm idle.

I would track down the root cause of smoke... the idle thing sounds like a band-aid.

^This.

Pat maybe your valve stem seals are coming due, I wouldn't be surprised you are over 100k and to be honest you made it this long.

Jay, of course its probably the seals, but the way the system works seems even if lets say they slighty leak i feel the valvetronic and idle have alot to do with it and not getting the clouds..

RB- It smoked real bad at like 69k ever since then did alot of research and tried various fixes to where you wont see the smoke prettt much ever unless you idle it for long and get on it when pulling away, if you pull away smooth not even noticeable... Dont feel like dropping 1-1.2k for all the tools and parts yet lol.
