Wheel arch / mudflaps question
As part of my "getting the X5 in perfect condition" dream, I arrived to the mudflaps!
My mudflaps and wheel arch "trim" seems to be missing a few screws and rivets. And causes some rattle on bad roads (we gots lots of them in norway). So I wanted order some new ones of these, however I can't seem to track down the correct part number (or specs for them). I've been looking at realoem.com, but I can't seem to find the mudflaps specs defined there. I only found this one, which covers the wheel arch that I have on my car. RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog So I hope that one of you members might be able shed some light on these question: 1. Mudflaps rivets/screw partnumber (see image, should it be screw or rivet there, same piece is missing on both sides) http://www.xoutpost.com/members/fxsl...-mudflaps1.jpg Or is just generic black universal scews used here? 2. I seem to be missing the rivets the joins/connects the wheel arch and the step board. http://www.xoutpost.com/members/fxsl...-mudflaps2.jpg http://www.xoutpost.com/members/fxsl...-mudflaps3.jpg I believe this to be this part: RealOEM.com - Part Search with part number: 51111944537 Can anyone confirm this or correct me on this? 3. My rear mudflaps are also loose. Looks like its only screws used here, similar to the front ones. However one screw looks like is screw with a oppsite "nute" or similar. See image. http://www.xoutpost.com/members/fxsl...-mudflaps4.jpg I have not been able to track down this part either, I assume this is just generic/universal black scews as well? Just for reference: my X5 is a 2002 3.0i (us version). I've appreciate any help with this. Thx! Cheers FxSlin |
I know auto parts stores here sell those pushpins in every size/shape "underthesun" I'd just look at some other x5's at the mall/grocery store. And then find a similar one at the parts store. But I'd also, rather get factory ones if it was my car. Dealer can't order you these? I'm new to bmw ownership, but any car I've ever had parts dept. at dealer had diagrams, which you can pick the clips, screws, pins you need. They're usually cheap even for dealer parts.

Not sure what goes there, as I don't have mudflaps. But here is the P/N for b=the blind rivets that hold the wheel arch on. I imagine the rear part of the rivet could look like a "nut thingy"...

In my experience, many of the OEM parts used to 'clip' things together are under-engineered for the job. I have replaced these with 'better' fittings in the past on a number of vehicles. The grommet (female) and pin (male) that holds the front mud flap to the side step for example, are both plastic (one pushes into the other) and have failed on both sides of my X. I've yet to deal with this, but will come up with a better solution than the OEM set-up for sure. All the others you have identified can be cured easily by going to see a motor-trimmer and ask for advice. They are specialists in getting things to piece together and often have parts that are better suited than the originals. My two-bobs worth...

Thx for quicks replies!!!
I'll be stopping by my indy tomorrow and ask around a bit. And see what they have in stock. However I like to order from ebay, as prices over here are insane compare to ie. ebay. FxSlin |

Just get some aftermarket flaps and use sheet metal screws.

I'll be stopping by the dealership tomorrow and ask there. Looks like generic sheet metal screws is the solution, unless I get some an answer tomorrow. ( I got loads of them laying around, after building a sheed couple years ago ) Is not really a biggy at least I got the correct rivets for the step board attachement. Thx again! Cheers |
Stupid idea here, but give it a whirl...
Take out the same screw on the other side of the car. This is not rocket science, put a screw in and if it holds then it's good. |
