It does sound like a sticking thermostat. It's possible you got a bad one.

Ryoken 08-09-2015 02:10 PM

would a sticking thermostat show any codes?

diyanich 08-09-2015 02:48 PM

It should set a code.

nope , I've read my codes several times and nothing , the garage even read the codes and that threw up no codes either
I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just double check its not a bhg I might be potentially throwing £££££ at it , when it is in fact the gaskets fault.

hi trader , cheers for the reply
I know its a loooong saga this :). but it gives us something to talk about ,
ill give you a time time line..........
when I got it ............
1 car running perfect, NO overheating issues what so ever,
2 had to take it in to garage due to waterpump failure , (leaking)
3 while it was in I told them to change the thermostat due to it being attached to water pump ( no point putting old thermos onto new WP)
replaced thermos and WP along with coolant flush
4 thermostat shorted , taking connector and a bit of wiring with it (repaired by garage)
time elapse
5 engine overheating
6 took car to garage , they read codes couldn't find anything wrong with it
ruled out BHG due to engine specialist advice, said to check fan clutch, but not done sniff test on engine
7 diagnosed fan clutch failure.
time elapse
8 engine over heating
9 changed lower temp sensor changed upper temp sensor
waiting for aux fan replacement

I don't know what brand of WP or thermostat they have used

Joshdub 08-09-2015 06:09 PM

I had my thermostat stick open and it did not throw a code.

Are you sure they repaired the connector correctly? It kind of sounds like they don't know what they are doing.
