Any E53 waiting for the X7

I dunno if I can wait it out....

The E53 was mine for the 1st 5 years of ownership.
Bought a new ride. This became the wifey's double baby seat hauler.

It's kinda nice not having a car note....at this time. Putting more $ against the mortgage we have on the 2nd house.

The repair on the X has it's moments. I think in years 9-12, we did not have anything major. Then the repairs came back again. High Pressure PS hose, sunroof casettes needing replaced, etc, etc.

I'm getting a lil tired of ~when~ the next repair will come lately.

Considered getting the GL550 last year, but then said, let's wait to see what the X7 offers

Been waiting for the X7 as a replacement.
Just not sure if I can wait it out anymore, with the influx of repairs...

Just typing off my soap box I suppose..

fair as ive read the x7 will be a V12 beast.
each car has its issues and eventually maintenance is required. the X7 wont be any different except the bill will be further down the line. compare that to the outlay now (when orders open) keeping and maintaining would be the cheaper option anyhow.

The GL550 is nice, but it drives like a big SUV that it is. I was rather bored behind the wheel as it isn't the least bit engaging. I don't know how the X7 will compare but I'd imagine it'll also just feel like a rolling living room.

As far as repairs, well the GL has been around a lot longer for MB to theoretically figure out issues. I bet the first gen X7 will be a nightmare out of warranty.

DO NOT TOUCH the first year of ANY Bimmer. they are nightmares for repairs. the first 2 years even. there wasn't enough real world R&D done to make them more reliable when they hit the showroom floors

why not go for the F15 ?

you're absolutely right, in fact I always buy used when towards the end or the middle of the model life : E70 2010 now, will be probably upgrading to a 2017-2018 F15 in 2021-2022 :)

Considered the F15. The idea of a true 7 seater will be more practical

The X7 will be larger...I know.
Useful now that I have munchkins.
It's amazing how the trunk get's so filled up these days.

Trunk space/utilitarianism between a F15 and no-design specs X7 so hard to make a comparison on that.

nevertheless i would go for the F15 and buy a roofbox for the rare cases when the trunk is really filled

All New Bimmers are horrendous when it comes to quality and reliability, particularly after the warranty period. BMW has become a full commodity mainstream automobile company. Frequency of repairs is definitely going to be higher than the older BMWs.

Truth. All these new luxury cars are just designed to be leased a couple times and then disposed of.
