Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I'm getting busy now so I'll have to take it in the a.m.

Eserve -

I know you like Castrol.....I recall you posted in another thread. Consider their 0-40 instead.

TI 030 is a very thin 30wt

Any good brand of high quality synthetic oil in the weight specified by MFG. and stick with it. Use OE or OEM filter.

What type of oil is the best to use? I'm going to have my oil changed today by an indy mechanic and he uses all different brands depending on what you like. But I don't know what I like so I'm seeking suggestions. TIA!:dunno:

No owers manuaL? If not...a simple google search like "BMW e53 x5 owners manual PDF" should find one that you can download straight to your device or CPU.

The simple maintenance questions are already answered...for instance...note not only does the owners manual give a recommended viscosity...it akso gives a toll free 800 AND a URL address that you can go to to see what the latest BMW "oil" recommendations are:

personally...I usually wait for the 5 quart jugs to go on sale at Walmart...and have the oil & oil filter in advance instead of waiting until its time to change.

German Castrol 0W-30 (now made in Belgium) or Mobil1 0W-40, swapped out every 6500 miles.

I use Mobile 1 5w30

Hey you guys know that the M1 rebate started again!!!

You can pick up 5 quart jugs for 10-11 bucks after rebate.

One Rebate per house hold, but you can buy (up to 4 has worked for another poster) and turn it in as one rebate. Or use your neigbirs address and most likely you won't have to tell them because your mailman would just put your rebate in your box:)

I have 3 bimmers ready for an oil change just in time as it just started Aug 1.

I can't believe the price you guys pay for oil in the US. I just purchased 2 x 5 litre bottles of Mobil1 0W-40, each costing me AUD$95 ($190 total). They were NOT on sale but I've never seen them for less than AUD$85 a 5 litre container (about US$65 at current exchange rates). We are truly getting ripped a new a-hole here in Australia!

I choose between and using,

Mobil1 0W40
Castrol 5W40
Castrol 0W40
