HELP!!!
I have not had the best of luck lately. Anyway, I walked out the door this morning to go to work to find all the windows opened in my X5 in a downpour rainstorm!!! I assumed maybe I pushed the button on my key down in my pocket thus resulting in the open windows! Furious, I grabbed a towel and wiped everything dry and drove to work. When I pulled into the parking lot at my job and put my X5 into park the right rear window started to roll down on its self with the car running!!!!!!!! As of right now I have plastic bags over the windows just in case they decide to open on their own again. to make matters worse, my X5 wont make the "beep" verification sound when I lock/arm the car. Could this be a faulty actuator? Embarrassed and frustrated are the feelings i feel right now.:(

Thanks man! I just ordered it off amazon overnight shipping. Hopefully this isn't as bad as I think it is...

Do our cars open the windows when they flood? You know like the range rovers. Maybe the window modules got soaked.

I'm wondering if I have a shorted relay or module. Last Friday I discovered I had a dead battery. I went to a interstate battery shop where I purchased a battery to only inherit more problems. While I was changing out the battery, the kid at the store plugged a device into my OBD2 port with out my permission. This device was designed to trick a cars computer into thinking there is still a battery in the car so you wouldn't have to reset your cars radio settings...... Like I would care? When I finished installing the battery the car alarm was going off, I got every warning message BMW has to offer, none of my windows, key fob, door locks would work. It took me 2 hours of trouble shooting to finally find that the OBD fuse was blown and I reset the car by hold both terminals together (not attached to the battery) to drain all the capacitors on the car. I had to crawl over the seats into the trunk and manually open the hatch. It was a nightmare. I was furious! After everything was done the car worked fine. However by coincidence today I'm having this issue....

i would just wait till it dries and see if you still have issues. i wouldn't actuate any of the windows before it all dries out though.

The switch unit in the drivers door contains the "brains" and will accumulate water if it gets rained on. Newer versions have a drain hole. I know, because mine went bad (no up or down) and I opened it up and found the bottom inch of the electronics all corroded away (much like the tail lights...). So, consider ordering a switch module from eBay to help with troubleshooting. I think new ones are around $100. Haven't checked eBay in a while.
Other people have reported the spontaneous window opening problem. One that I recall left his car at the airport for a couple of weeks and came back to find it really soggy.... |
