Exhaust pipe trim?
So my wife liked my 02 X5 so munch she made me buy her one. I found her a 05 with 100k miles. So now I have 2 sitting side by side. Her 05 has beauty rings inside the trim rings around the exhaust ports. Thus 2 parts on each side, trim ring and beauty ring. I tried looking up the part and could not come up with the part number. The part is black plastic with bmw stamped inside but not enough room for a part number. Plus mine has led lights on the inside door pulls, hers does't. Any help thanks.

I had to put the trim rings around the exhaust ($8 apiece from dealer) after I got rid of the horrendous stock 3.0 exhaust and upgraded to the 4.8is axle back
Earlier models had LED door pulls standard equipped IIRC while the later models it wasn't equipped on all trim levels |
Do you know the part# for the trim rings? I tried looking it up but got no where.

Look up rear bumper trim for a 4.6iS or a 4.4, should be under rear bumper trim diagram on RealOEM, BMW calls it "heat protection" pieces

Oh I get it, those rings are on the 3.0 factory exhaust with the "natural curve" tips
I wasnt even aware those existed, must be on facelift models only. In that case go on RealOEM for a facelift 3.0 and you should be able to find the part numbers |

On the 4.8is axle back exhaust upgrade, was it a lot of work?Is the 4.8is tube diametre the same as the 3.0i and was it all plug and play or did you have to weld? Cheers  |
Tubing diameter is larger than the 3.0, but thats not really the problem.
Everything bolted up, the only thing is the 4.8 has flanges that are larger in diameter. So the only fabrication needed to fit it was to cut the flanges off the stock 3.0 axle back sections approx 2-3" back I think? Then they just welded the 3.0 flanges on the 4.8iS sections and fitted it like factory. I can take a pic underneath my X if needed :) Basically reference this post on a 4.4 because the 3.0 and 4.4 share the same flanges on their exhaust and thats almost exactly what my shop had to do: http://www.xoutpost.com/742961-post13.html |
