2004 4.8iS exhaust choices

Hey guys just wondering what everyone is doing to get a little more sound out of the exhaust on the 4.8?? Seems the system needs quite a bit of back pressure to not get a crackle and pop. What is everyone doing to get more sound? Not looking for complete exhaust replacement just deeper tone and no crackle or popping.

I did the eisenmann exhaust and it just sounds glorious. Crystalworks just picked up a 4.8is with Dinans on it and my by the clips of his exhaust my eisenmann race sounds very similar to his.

If you don't want a full replacement, just remove the center resonator and replace with an H or X pipe.

This is what sold me:

Thanks guys. Going to get something done Friday I'll post a clip of what it sounds like when I get a chance. Gonna start out just replacing the resonator and see how she sounds. I'm going to put in a more open muffler in its place.

This is my X5 with resonator replaced with magnaflo and back mufflers deleted. Let me know what you guys think. Actually sounds really mean, but I don't like the popping at higher RPMs so I'm gonna have to figure out how to get rid of the popping.

Yes you X sounds mean. To get rid of the popping noise at higher RPM you are going to need some type of resonator.

Thanks for the response. Thanks for the tip that is on the agenda for Monday. Gonna put something else up to get rid of the popping.

So.....I finally found the sweet spot. I wanted tone and no crackle or pop when accelerating. Deleted resonator and put in straight pipe......crackle. Deleted resonator and put in Magnaflo muffler and deleted back mufflers......crackle. Put back in back mufflers.......too quiet and still had a pop. Now i have the truck with the stock resonator back in place and nothing else. After the resonator i go straight to the tips and it is phenomenal. It is nice and deep, there is no crackle or pop when accelerating and it sounds pretty nasty IMO. I will post up a link to a video as soon as i get a chance....but i would recommend this for anyone looking for a more aggressive sound, and not trying to spend $3000.

Yes the factory resonator is a critical component in eliminating crackle and rasp. BMW already spent a great deal of time determining what size and length was necessary to achieve the correct output coming off the resonator.

So, my question is now that the resonator is back on, if I add a muffler close to the tips, will it change the tone and deepen even more, or will it quiet the truck back down like the stock mufflers did?
