INPA, NCS, & EDIABAS DIY

Hello everyone. I was lucky enough to stumble across this information and feel every BMW enthusiast should have access to it too. I'm no expert, but I will do my best to help all that are willing.

You can seriously damage your car using some of these programs. If you wish to do so, I can not be held liable:)

You need a laptop/ect. to start with, and windows XP or 7. Windows 8 & 8.1 will work too, but there have been reported problems.

You need to purchase this cable which will work on models up 2007. I have no affiliation with these sales.
VAG com USB Cable OBD II 2 FTDI KKL 409 1 VW Audi VCDS KTM Triumph Tuneecu BMW | eBay

I also recommend purchasing this 20 pin adapter if you have an older vehicle with the round port under the hood.
New 20 Pin to OBD2 OBD 2 Female 16pin Connector Adapter Cable for BMW Oy | eBay

Do not install any drivers that may come with them.

Go here to download the cable driver. I use 2.10.00 located near the bottom.
Virtual COM Port Drivers

Here is the link to the custom INPA pack.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?...xIRzhYTms#list

Download everything (1 gig or so I think) and you will end up with: INPA, NCSExpert, WinKFP, Tool32, EDIABAS, NCSDummy, General Installation

INPA - Diagnosis, resetting errors, aligning EWS/CAS, advanced activation of certain car behaviors (ex: turn on your ABS module for bleeding brakes) - MOSTLY SAFE
NCSExpert - Coding (changing internal module settings, and marrying a module to the car - Advanced)
WinKFP - Flashing (you need the Daten files for your car, and you need to load them to WinKFP - Very Advanced)
Tool32 - An advanced tool for similar programming and coding - Advanced
EDIABAS - The virtual server service that the 4 programs above use to connect to your cable. This pack provided has the latest version that still works with BMW 20-pin connection.

Other Softwares:
NCSDummy - A 3rd party helper for NCSExpert coding file interpretation. Not completely necessary. It is for changing settings inside a module mostly. (Ex: Turning off the iDrive warning on start, or changing module behavior, or changing the way the temperature dummy gauge's range on the instrument cluster.)

Enter INPA Folder -> download "INPA_502_Enabled_ReUpdated.zip" (492MB)
Extract all the files.

Instructions on how to install it are inside the zip folder.
(**Newer Windows - Every install file MUST be opened Compatibility -> Windows XP (Service Pack 3), and "As Administrator"**)

Make sure you set up your Environment Variables and follow the included instructions!

One simple mod that is recommended to the 16 pin cable is here. I recomend you do this.

Modifications to make to FTDI VAGCOM cable to work well with INPA (+ all EDIABAS programs)
1. Buy a FTDI FT232RL VAG COM Cable. Do NOT buy the one with the CH340 Chip.
a. Drivers Virtual COM Port Drivers I recommend driver Version 2.10.00 (bottom of page)
to avoid potential problems with some cables.
2. Open cable and solder pin #7 and #8 together. (Optional - if you want to use cable with newer BMWs)
3. Download MProg 3.5 http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Ut...s/MProg3.5.zip
4. Go to Tools Menu -> Read and Parse
a.Invert RI # and DSR # signals to fool the detection of battery and ignition, in order to be able to encode.
b. I / O Controls settings:
#C0 = RXLED
#C1 = TXLED
#C2 = PWRON
#C3 = PWRON
#C4 = SLEEP
c. After making your changes: "Save Template as" (green floppy disk button, or File -> Save as..)
d. Program the cable with new settings: "Program" (Lightning button, or Device -> Program)

Might look a lil funky, but it is EZPZ.......

Heres another mod for INPA which puts the E53 one click away.
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...n&txt=Download

Once all this is done you are now ready. Plug in your connector to your PC and obd port or your 20 pin if you have one, turn key to position 2 and open INPA.

I have only begun to explore the full capabilities of this program. Once your runing the program you will find that navigation is pretty simple. If you for instance get an error while trying to access a DME, just try a different one. they are not all clearly called out. You can even calibrate some modules and sensors on the vehicle. You guys with 2 axle air suspension can adjust your ride height very precisely and easily with INPA. I lowered a 4.8 the other night and it was pretty straight forward. In fact, you should see some pics pop up around here of it pretty soon!

Good luck you guys and I'll do my best to assist the ones with problems. If you follow the instructions in the pack, you should be good to go;)

Will try to get it running sometime in the near future. Still need to program voltage monitoring off on the X5 I sold my brother in law. I know that license plate bulb warning is killing him... it did me but could never get a coding program up and running...

Help Windows 10

Tried installing in windows 10 and only gives option of windows 98 service pack 3 (program recommends service pack 2). Won't get past the select english screen. If I then try again, it says install and then disappears.

Any clues how to get working with windows 10. (I downloaded all the files)

This mod/patch will put E53 on the front page, otherwise you can use E39, which is what I did untill I got this...

Another gentlemen complained about a virus too....... I can confirm everything in this pac works and does not have any virus's, but it's at your own risk. All that patch does is put the E53 model on the front page.

Not sure about the capatibility with 10. I would sugest picking up an older XP laptop to run this software on.

hunds02 11-03-2015 01:12 PM

Not sure why people do not just get the eBay kit from the Romanian seller. Its all over the forum. No viruses, no fussing over which cable to buy as the cable and software are all bundeled up in one nice package.

I didn't read through the first post but the instructions seemed way too long. The kit from Romania is idiot-proof and works on XP, Windows 7, and 8.
It probably works on Windows 10 too, just need to confirm with the seller. Besides INPA, NCS, and Ediabas, it also includes a few other programs like SSS and Winkfap (probably spelled that wrong).

This pac includes winkfp too. The guy in Romania is selling free software lol.... If you read the first post, it's super easy. I'm not a PC wiz by any means and was able to get this software up and running with in hours and 15 bucks, oh and a peace of mind:). This software has no virus's either, some just have a bigger firewall than others.

Is the pac from romain is in English?

i've tried it in google or IE i still get the message=Sorry, this file is infected with a virus

Only the owner is allowed to download infected files.

To answer your question Helihover, the version I got from Romania is in German and makes diagnosing anything incredibly hard.

So I downloaded this version and it works. But when I go to download the patch to put E53 in the front, google drive says "Sorry, file infected with virus" and stops me. Am I missing something? How to I download it?

Many systems block downloading of .exe files - it would work better if the .exe. was zipped (as a .zip) file. ;)

BMW USB OBD Diagnostic Cable Inpa Ediabas Dis V57 SSS V32 Progman GT1 | eBay

With this cable, did you have to cut it open and solder pins #7 & #8 together and/or some other hack to get the E53 to show up?

The link for a cable in the OP is to an expired ebay listing, and I would rather get something that is more plug and play. I saw a demo on YouTube for the 1.4 BMW scanner tool with PA Soft and that looked simple to use, but unfortunately I have read that only works up to 2003 models and I have a 2006. There is so much conflicting info out there on the scanning/coding options and much of it seems out of date, but this is a pretty recent thread. I just ordered a BAFX bluetooth OBD2 scanner so I could try out Torque Pro app on my Android phone, but I don't think that will help with what I need to do, so I'm looking for the right cable to work with a laptop as well.

I don't want to do anything real advanced; my main goals are the following, in order of priority:

* Turn off cold check for my halos

* Reset adaptation for after I change my transfer case fluid

* Display transmission temp for when I change my transmission fluid
(I just ordered an infrared thermometer for this, which may work fine)

* May want to change the window roll up options, etc..

* Display and clear codes (Android Torque Pro says it clears codes, but PC based app may be better

My work laptop has Win 7, but I don't want to screw anything up on that, so I'll probably buy a cheap Win XP laptop on Craigslist to dedicate for this and for something to keep in the garage for looking up things on the web.

There are only two posted, and yes both of them work. I have both cables running all this software and it works great.

Helihover 01-08-2016 10:42 PM

I found this from the original thread posted on another site.....

"I updated the pack, for anyone that downloaded it after 7/16/2015. I had made a small mistake on the Step 3 self extracting archive that updates everything. It is all good now.

To fix any potential issues from a pack installed in between that timeframe, re-run Step 3 of the installation."

This was posted a couple days ago.

Resurrecting this thread. I have a silver / clear generic USB DCAN OBD2 cable I bought off eBay a year ago and I'm beating my head against the wall trying to get it to work. Wish I had seen this thread first.

Looks like I need the blue VAG COM cable with the green mobo. Ordering the same one off ebay the OP listed. Are they all the same even the cheapy $4-8 eBay china ones?

THANKS!

we350z 01-06-2018 03:57 AM

OK so after a little research the reason why you need the blue KKL VAG cable for the e53 is due to the dual k-line. Found this info on another site:

https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...d-Transmission

scourtaud23 01-06-2018 05:00 AM

I've got the grey one for my 2002 (2001 build) x5 and it works great now I've jumped pins 7 & 8...

we350z 01-06-2018 05:51 AM

Hmm maybe my 2000 model is different / special. Mine is a very early model. Based on what I've read other E39/E53 folks have had the same issues where they couldn't read modules besides engine / trans whether via INPA or DIS.

I ordered the same blue / silver FT232RL USB Cable KKL 409.1 OBD2 VAG COM 409 the OP listed from a seller in state (CA) that offers free returns. I think it will work. I Hope.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F272986309350

If it doesn't I can fly blind and refurb my compressor change out my height sensors but I still need to calibrate SLS via the EHC module so If this doesn't work I'll probably just go the coilover route.

FastEddie313 01-30-2018 09:03 PM

I bought an ebay kit with the obd2 cable, round bmw cable, and disk of programs..
I got that to work somewhat, well enough to read and clear codes, and reset adaptations..

But it's sketchy as frig with a thousand error messages, I'd like to do it right..
So I am going to try it this way and see what that gets me..
Is anyone around these days that know what they are doing with this stuff?

80stech 01-31-2018 02:56 PM

There is really no easy way around it. It's seams/is sketchy because everything is a bit of a hack, but once you get the hang of it and work through the problems it won't seem as sketchy. It's a long shallow learning curve but worth it if you really want to get deeper into diagnoses, repair and programming/coding.

Would it still be as sketchy on win XP?

I have it doing what I said on win 10 but most control units are "no response from control unit" but I get engine codes, can clear codes, can reset engine and trans adaptations, and I can get a lot of the green bar things to work like looking at vanos timing and such..

I have 7 on my computer too and thought about trying it there but have been having wifi/ethernet driver issues because I haven't updated it in like 2 years..

I went to put XP on my computer but it failed, either I got a bad iso or someone told me about having to install the oldest one first but I think that was just to get the new multiboot options and I could just accomplish that with grub I think and maybe just fix that with bootrec from 10 or IDK..

Anyway I think I am just going to try it on 7 unless you guys thing that XP is like the only way to go..

I want to do it right.. Where do you suggest I start a fresh install?

we350z 01-31-2018 04:49 PM

Use XP. At least use an XP virtual machine.

No response from control unit error could be a cabling issue. Can you access engine or trans modules? Do you have a round diag plug under the hood? Search my other threads I went through all this and have it working now.

80stech 01-31-2018 06:20 PM

I have inpa/dis/ncs etc packages running on 2 different machines, one on XP and the other win 7. NCS expert/dummie runs under plain xp and most of the older bmw stuff runs under the customized bmw XP which is why it needs to run under a virtual machine even in XP. If you check out the website from the German supplier PSS.autosoft he has a really good explaination of how everything fits together.

Let us know what year X5 you have. If it is 2001 and later, you need to have pins 7 and 8 on the OBDII connector of the cable bridged. Take a multimeter and make sure those pins are bridged. Without the bridge, only engine parameters can be accessed.

I think I have been able to access the engine and trans, ecu something, and basically nothing else..

I do not believe it has the round plug, it's an 06 and I haven't noticed one, but I bought one anyway hoping I could play with my OBD1 M3 with it too..

Older as in older than I would need for an 06?

It would be nice to just put it on my 7 if that would be good enough for my purposes on an 06 X5 3.0..

Yeah it's an 06 3.0, I aught to get a signature done, I might be around a bit..

I'll try this and then see what sort of stuff works but I doubt it is going to do much from 10..

If necessary I'll explore the VM route..
Did I read correctly that you would have to install sp3 32bit XP and then run a virtual machine of another XP distro to use this stuff for some "older" cars?
Quite complex..

Overboost 01-31-2018 08:45 PM

Just check pins 7 and 8 are bridged. I'm pretty positive that is your problem if you can see engine and trans info but nothing else. You can even take the cover off and have a visual.

After a lot of fighting with drivers my install on 7 went very smoothly. The only problem I had was that black screen at the end where it is supposed to be a bunch of "OK"s I had one "warning" and it was a 3 on the left and a 1 on the right..

Tons less error messages now when I use it on 7 compared to my install attempt on 10 but I still get a few "job not found" and "no response from control unit" s but it might just be that I don't have those control units or something..

I jumped the 7-8 pins and I can also get into a lot of other modules now but not all work I think, or again I don't have that..

I did an error message scan again and as follows is what I got..
The only one I was pulling previously is the "Error Sek. air mass meter" and it seems to be the one tripping my CEL.. I want to fix this so my CEL doesn't come on anymore but haven't figured out quite what it is yet..

The rest of them are new to me just now since the good install on 7 and jumping the pins..

Any comment on these?

See the first 2 that are "job status error" and "IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT" ??
Does that mean that INPA is still not working quite right or is this normal?

Clear all the errors and then scan the errors again. Some of the errors can be from past issues.

Crowz 02-01-2018 08:25 PM

Yep definitely clear errors. I bought a new scan tool and let it loose on my perfect running e53 and it had a ton of different errors in different modules. These were caused by me disconnecting the battery when I changed the steering wheel.

I cleared them. The only than that came back was the level sensing sensor on the front for the headlights. Seems it has issues I need to check out sometime. But the point is the 4 or 5 modules with various errors were bogus. Most cars don't keep codes like that.

Bmw's have memories like an elephant. So always clear codes when its been a long time since you scanned it and then see what pops up after clearing. Only hunt those.

I have cleared the codes on this like 5 times already but this is the first time I've cleared it after getting the rest of those modules to work, so I guess they didn't clear before but the engine sure was clearing..
The computer was suck a mess, I bought this X with a trans default prog and all sorts..
Yes I cleared it right after I took that scan, will drive it a few more times, DD, and scan it some more..

I recognize some of those errors, my passenger side power mirror is all messed up, up/down doesn't work and the folding function is broke to where it flips forward and doesn't stop back where it it supposed to be..
Also the aux water pump makes sense, it is super cold here and I have been complaining that this X seems to take forever to warm up and get heat.. This is the first time I have gotten any mirror codes or water pump codes..
But I think I should probably keep my specific diagnosis out of this thread..

I have finally taken the tinme to get my diagnostic software up and running. My only remaining problem is reducing the screen size for the DIS screen so thqt I can view the entire page without having to scroll back and forth nd up and d9wn. How is this done?

80stech 02-23-2018 12:09 PM

I think you need to tile the windows and size it in the virtual machine.

FastEddie313 03-18-2018 07:28 PM

Their has been great INPA info here..

Does anyone know what needs to be done to make my install work on a 95 OBD1 M3?
Works fine on my X.. Nothing on the M..

I do have some access to my brother's E36 328 with the round plug under the hood and then the INPA Cable but I can't recall the year. If you have the round plug, it may work.

WhidbeyX5 03-19-2018 12:02 AM

I have a 2001 z3 that is equipped with both the OBD2 in the passenger footwell and the round 20 plug under the hood. Recently, I was able to turn off the airbag light by using a 20-pin connector to 16 pin converter. For some reason the OBD2 inside did not work. I think the converters are readily available.

FastEddie313 05-03-2018 05:55 PM

Anyone know what this code means?

Error registration 3 : 0x005F: SAV or SA-tupe blocked <<<<!!! Error accurances: 5 Logistic counter : 40
Error accure 1st time at:

--- --- --- SAV or SA-tupe blocked Error to relevant Error debounce Error currently available sporadic Error Error code: 5F F8 05 28 64 66 20 41 48 96

What the heck is a tupe? or a SAV or SA-tupe? And how where would my tupe be blocked?

The full scan had instances of overrichness at low RPM I believe must be related to this tupe code..

Whatever this is it made my trans go into failsafe..
Reset codes and trans adaptations, test drive was fine with no codes but just a couple miles..

Search doesn't turn up squat..

scourtaud23 05-03-2018 06:08 PM

Maybe if you can get the german version of INPA which is the most recent available, the code would make sense. Some codes have not been translated brilliantly.

To save anyone the time I took trying to hook up an E53 using Carly, Torque with Bluetooth, cheap OBD cables without the KCAN/ DCAN switch... just don't!

My '06 4.8iS is an old car, it's better to interface it with old tech; I installed Mike's Easy BMW Tools on my Vaio running XP, using a silver switchable USB cable, and it ran up first time! I calibrated those pesky air suspension balloons immediately... so proud! :p:

FourPointEight-is 06-05-2018 11:10 PM

I Just want to add to this thread in hopes that this saves other novices some time.

Recently, I tried getting INPA/ISTA-D working ith my E53 4.8 X5 and no matter what I did in INPA I could only read the Engine/Gearbox. NONE of the other functions worked. ISTA wouldn't connect at all.

Despite all this, I know my cable & software are working because the work on newer BMWs (I've got a E82 as well) - both ISTA-D and INPA work.

That's when I found this thread.

The first post states "2. Open cable and solder pin #7 and #8 together. (Optional - if you want to use cable with newer BMWs)"

This is wrong! (or out of date information;) It appears OLDER cars require pins #7 and #8 connected; NEWER cars don't.

I opened up my interface (a ~$15 cheapass one I got a couple of years ago from ebay - it says K+D-CAN Cable and is silver in colour) and bridged pins #7 and #8. Voila - INPA and ISTA-D now connect and talk to all the ECUs in my car.

johngrefe 06-26-2018 12:30 PM

So I soldered a switch onto 7/8.

I can do an information grab in inpa, and I see it testing modules it wasn't communicating with prior, such as the headlights.

When I go to read errors INPA will crash.
If I flip the switch to unbridge the pins and run an error read, it'll read fine, but only engine and transmission. Do I have something misconfigured with the software?

FourPointEight-is 06-26-2018 10:58 PM

What error message (if any) is INPA giving you?

If you can grab ISTA-D that would be ideal...

And ISTA works with the same cable.

I've never had an issue reading or clearing codes with my inpa cable on any modules since I connected pins 7 & 8 but testing another version of INPA or ISTA might help you.

Is this still state-of-the-art, or are there better cables and software versions available?

80stech 03-06-2019 04:42 PM

Check out "One Stop Electronics" they have good quality cables and a good explanation of the differences.

Trasportador 03-06-2019 07:07 PM

I have ISTA P + D, INPA, DIS, NCS Expert WinKfp, Progman etc. Having used INPA for years on my cars, Ista is a bit of a curve for me. I'm fine with using INPA, as it gets into all my cars, E53, E39, E38(not the e34, but that's because of the machine setup i have).

I've found that for the E53 Chassis, PA soft is more than enough to get the average person by. For ride height settings, will need INPA or ISTA though.

There are several sellers on Ebay that sell the discs to load onto user machines. A lot of folks get hemmed up on the installation and use. I've sold about 100 laptops with the INPA suite and PA Soft, so these installs are easy for me at this point. Hard to believe it's the purchase of my e53 that forced me to make my own machine hears ago.

Any chance someone can give me a hand with getting started? I have the cable and have the programs downloaded (INPA, NCS, Edibas, 32), but I'm having a problem communicating. INPA shows ignition power, but when I try to get started in NCS I get an error. What am I doing wrong? I opened INPA to verify power, opened NCS, hit load file, expertman, hit F1, F3, pick E53, and this it what I get...

I have an 05 X5 4.4 and I'm trying to adjust the min valve lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Purplefade 03-29-2019 09:52 PM

LiftedYJ - did you bridge pins 7 & 8 in your cable?

Negative. Do I need to for an 05? The guy I got the cable from never used it, so I doubt he did. But I'll double check in the AM. It seems to be able to communicate. I was able to see the valve stroke and eccentric shaft values.

Purplefade 03-30-2019 10:12 AM

For mine to work properly I had to, I also have an 05 X5 4.4i. I could get it to connect and could from time to time read a module but it was never stable, bridged those pins and she’s been solid ever since.

LiftedYJ 03-30-2019 03:38 PM

After some more digging online during my sleepless night I found the website my cable came from. It doesn't have pin 8 in the plug! At first I was quite concerned. But I eventually figured out that the little black adapter it came with is to bridge 7&8. I just tried it with the adapter and it works. I was able to go into INPA and adjust my valve lift. Now I need to learn NCS lol.

Is there a list of what modules are what? If someone could walk me thru coding one, like the seatbelt reminder, that would be awesome. Thanks for the help!

Hey Transportador, Do you still sell ready to go laptops with this software and cable so that someone with an E53 2005 model can plug in and start diagnosing their vehicles? I recently purchased one from a seller on eBay who claimed it would work for many years of BMW, including mine, but upon receipt, I found it will not detect my car at all. It seems like a cable driver issue to me. I even tried another cable but same result, never any communication. The seller now admits issues with the older vehicles and is "working on it". I'm ready to return and start fresh with someone who understands E53s. My immediate issue is diagnosing a DSC issue that causes right side braking. I suspect steering angle sensor. Can you help. Thanks so much!!

Hey bud, firstly, to your problem. Only the right side caliper is braking? Both front and rear or only one? Could be as simple as a binding caliper? Any brake warning lights on? I'm fresh out of laptops until this coming weekend, as I need to load the set I just got in. I'll reach out to you when complete. Yes, my machines work on all E chassis obd2 BMW's, so all good for your e53.

Bummer. I cannot even get rolling with step 1, prerequisites. I copied all of the files to the desktop. However at the date of this post, the zip folder located in the INPA super-folder supplied from the OP in Google Drive is labeled "INPA Pack 2016 V1.2a.zip" and not what is listed in the OP. It is also only around 253 MB, not the 450 MB stated in the OP.

Attempting to run the PathEditor.exe gives me an error as not being an .exe valid for the WIN32 application process. The computer is set to administrator.

Windows XP Pro, 32-bit with service pack 3.

X5M-ISH 07-08-2019 09:24 PM

After dealing with installation issues for the better part of this afternoon, I determined that the files in the OP are corrupted/missing elements to make everything work. After digging around the internet I came across this link, which is about 34 pages long spanning nearly eight years of people posting and contributing to the particular thread:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1204192

The OP has a link: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/a7jvirbs559ib/Software which contains installation files and instructions to install INPA, NCS-Expert Tool, WinKFP, Tool32, EDIABAS and BMW Coding Tool. Everything installed perfect on my WinXP machine along with the e53 daten files: https://mega.nz/#F!plp2gCJS!NDWXdf7OjFC0bTTiwyf0Ug which need to be extracted using this program here: http://www.7-zip.org/. The pdf instructions are straight forward up until the OP mentions using the K+DCAN cable. I have the BMW Scanner v1.4.0 as recommended by pretty much all of you here with E53's.

My question; is there any further setup in any of the software listed above to utilize this scanner? A special setting for latency/connection/time out in WinXP or? I have properly installed the drivers that came with the cable and the cable when plugged into USB port 1 is recognized and named as "BMW Scanner".

FourPointEight-is 07-08-2019 09:28 PM

The COM settings are defined inside some ini file.

Search your C: for "obd.ini", and look in there.

Ok, to the best of my recollection I didn't have to do anything special for BMW Scanner 1.4.0, just unzip, install, plug in and use (basically).

For INPA, NCSExpert, etc, etc, and the cable that is used with those applications, I belive you need to do this:

1. Go to Device Manager.
2. With Cable plugged in, find the "USB Serial Port", make it COM1 (or any free one, your choice). Also make latency 1msec while you're there.
3. Now go to C:/EDIABAS/bin/OBD.ini and change the COM port to COM1 as well. (It can be any COM port, as long as they're matching with step 2 actually).

.ini files can be opened with most text editors, just right click and choose "open with" and choose your .txt editor of choice, edit the .ini file cirectly and save and close.

Note - the cable used for BMW Scanner 1.4.0 will not work with the INPA, NCSExpert, etc, etc apps, that is specifically (I believe) the K+DKAN cable you mention above and the cable used for INPA, NCSExpert, etc, etc will not work for BMW Scanner either, they are not interchangeable that I have seen.

:iagree:

And I could also never get my INPA Cable (K-Line) drivers to co-exist with my BMW Scanner cable drivers, so I ended up using two laptops (well, one is a real laptop, the other is a WinXP VM on a MacBook).

This makes more sense. I was unaware that INPA, EDIABAS etc. have their own cable - the K+DCAN cable. I was also unaware that the BMW Scanner v1.4.0 comes with its own software, a single program. That clears up a lot of confusion which isn't clearly stated on other forums/posts. Can anyone recommend a proper cable to utilize INPA? The OP's link expired long long ago.
