Possible retrofit of Webasto heater from 740
hi all,
I have the opportunity to pick up a cheap and working set of Webasto heater from a 740. This includes all the wirings (no remote though), exhaust and the unit. The unit was controlled from the cars obc (I expect there is some sort of timer that one can set there). Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit this into e53 2001 4.4 without to much hassle (both in terms of fitment and also to let the obc talk to the unit) ? I have read as much as I can on the forum but did not find a retrofit thread, only repair troubleshooting threads. thanks |
I did not know that BMW came with webasto, dissel?

Both are available.
Did talk to a local specialist and he did not think this was possible as it would be difficult to let the x5 accept the system from e38 as it is hard coded to that car. |
I guest it might work if you put a switch, so that you could activate it manualy . I don't know as I haven't seen these on BMW I have seen it on the tractor trailers that I work with. They do have a module

Problem is to activate the blowe fan when you turn on the heater. You need to hook up to the ecu for that.

Oh. Fo that you could add a relay

Interesting. Something to consider. Thanks for the input Emory.
